Hi my 2005 seat leon cupra 1.8 20VT has been feeling sluggish for the past few days and smells like its over fueling and feels like it is misfiring, I had someone to read it and see if any error codes come up .and boom 6 codes showed up :-o

codes that showed up :
18010:35-10
16955:35-10
17072:35-10
17608:35-10
17964:35-10
17544:35-10

Any ideas what i can do before i take it to the garage or scrapyard ?

I think i have found one of the problems there is a pipe that comes of the bottom of the intake manifold that was split , Not sure what the pipe is for ?
 
Depends what pipe and how badly split it is. It will cause it to lean definitely, not usually bad enough to cause a misfire though.

Replace the pipe and see how it runs is probably the best course of action.

Depends on the map. I popped a pcv hose after mapping the car and it generated no less than 14 error codes, horrible idle and plenty of misfiring.
 
What is a pcv hose? I have terrible idle and feels like a constant misfire along with quite smelly fuel wise on tickover on my new cupra. The last owners said it had been tuned which is why but i think i have a split boost pipe. Trying to find possible causes. Thanks.

You have 2 PCV outlets, one at the crankcase with a plastic 90 degree elbow secured with a rubber o-ring and a c-clip. The second outlet is on the passenger side of the rocker cover. There's a one way valve on the bottom section that takes vacuum from a hose connected to the underside of the intake manifold, and a second one way valve called the hockey puck on the turbo intake Pipe. This ensures that there's always a vacuum source to the PCV system regardless of throttle position.

The gasses from the PCV system are heavy with oil and combustion gasses, and this causes the rubber PCV hoses to perish and split. If they split, you end up with a boost and vacuum leak which gives petrol smells in the car, idling problems and reduced performance.

You can buy a new set of hoses on eBay including the lower one way valve and pcv outlet elbow for less than £20. Definitely worth replacing them all.
 
Its still running on the standard map am guessing it was just warn out over time,The split in the pipe was about 2 inch long ,I will add some pitchers showing which pipe was split when i get time i thinking of replacing the whole pvc pipes.

Wow Cupra Ross thanks for the informative reply and link. It was just what i need. One of the pipes isnt even connected to anything just been cut off! Would that cause a wheezing sound under boost and an eml light? And i assume it would affect mpg? Many thanks.

Yes it would definitely cause the EML and most probably make that kind of sound as well.

I've personally fitted the whole set that ross linked, and they are fine. That was almost a year ago now and no problems or deterioration since they were fitted.

Agreed Matty, I prefer the OEM pcv kit to a catch can setup. Looks tidier and works as intended. Good to know that we can expect a reasonable working life out of these hoses.

Yeah, considering that the whole set costs less than one pipe from a main dealer, they seem to be up to the job.
