I recently purchased a 2002 Cupra 180 and after coming from a 130 car it actually didnt feel much faster so i decided to remove the negative terminal for 30 mins and see if there was any difference.

Oh boy was there a difference it actually felt like a 180bhp car and sent you back in to your seat, turbo seemed to be louder aswell.

The problem is that its been a few days and it seems to have gone back to how it was before is there anyway to keep it at full power or is it a fault as it reverts back?

i wouldnt say i drove like an idiot but i do like to put my foot down now and again.

any suggestions would be appreciated.

There are members on here that have the similar package that the dealer have that will be able to read any fault codes for you.
Take a look in the vag com section to see if there are memebers in your area that need a free beer or two

No you can do it yourself.

But if it goes back to lower performance like the above scenario then it's an indication the ECU is picking up a problem (logged as a Fault with a code) this will identify the problem e.g. a faulty sensor or boost leak etc.

The likely reason the car is going slower is that the car is running in 'limp' mode to protect itself until the fault is rectified.

The ECU also learns and adapts to you and your driving and the battery disconnect will reset the adaptation on that too.

It may help or may just indicate a bigger issue which can be identified at a garage or with some aftermarket software and a laptop.

With the battery disconnect being free it's worth a shot ;)

what fuel are you using?

and you have definately not 'just got used to it'?

Standard unleaded as far as i know.

I was thinking about this earlier i don't think so, the car just doesnt seem to pull as much as the day i took the terminal off.

The car at the moment isn't exactly slow but i can deffinately feel a difference i think the best bet is this VAG COM thing see if there are any errors and go from there.

I will also take off the terminal again tomorrow and see if it makes a difference, if not i guess i have just got used to the car.

Thanks for your help.

Or buy a lead yourself for £15, or buy a beer for a SCN member and get them to do it :p
