The golf gt that I test drove was ok. but the power delivery was somewhat agricultural and primitive compared to FR which I also tested, this engine I think whilst being fairly green, will be very dull to drive....

It depend what your after, afterall how fast can you drive nowadays... for a town car its probably a pretty good decision - economical and nippy round town.

yes but what you guys are forgeting is this replaces the 1.6!!! need i say more
its more ecomomical, lower tax
faster than a 1.6
newer design of engine
and its a turbo
this apeals to the lower end of the market ie for 18, 19, 20 year olds who cant afford the fr but want turbo car :)
much much better than the 1.6

I reckon it could be a car for my wife. She wants an Eos but does like the Leon, and that little engine will be great for tax and nipping around. 0-60 aint all that matters

when i drove the 1.6 is was a bag of junk, hence why i went for the 1.9tdi.

Didnt top gear say the Golf GT had so much lag and was a very poor car?

0-62 in 9.8 secs and 125 PS isn't too bad.

A lot of standard cars still have less power and a 0-62 time worse than that. That's quicker than my Mk 1 1.8 Focus was.

Some people don't want/can't afford a performance car so it should suit them down to the ground.

Sounds alright to me for the type of car that it is...

I used to have a Mk2 Golf GTI years ago... that had 114 BHP and felt like a rocket at the time as i wasn't used to any more power!
