Sorry to be posting in the UK forum. (and sorry for the long Thread) - and sorry for some simplified english :-D

I am from Denmark, and the danish seat-forum is DEAD, and i need a bit of support.

in the older days, i had a brand new Altea FR diesel, the first one got exchanged for a new one bacause of quality issues, and the next one had quite a lot of issues, but all solved, but sold it before warranty ran out, i loved the car, hated the issues, but all friends that had af VAG car (VW / Skodas) had the same issues.

had a couple of cars since, my last car is a 320D BMW company car, that i lost when i found better job, another place. so i am actually without car at the moment, driving my wifes. (and a new BMW when not a company car, is a bit to expensive)

so been looking into GTI´s.

In Denmark we have insane regristration tax on cars, so 180% on top of normal price + 25% sale tax on the full price including the tax, so cars get expensive (then road tax / enviromental tax on the cars)

so the cupra ends up in 421.000 DKKR list price for the 6 speed manual 280 version (19" alloys / DCC / etc .. no nav in the danish version) - we get a good danish rebate from seat (and just a 1.000 pund rebate from Seat = 3500 punds on the final price because of taxes)

the CHEAPEST golf 3 door 220hp diesel is 490.000 DKKR without ANY equipment..

a 5door is 510.000 .. dealer prices for me are a Fully spec´ed cupra 390dkk a base GTI 230 performace with a dynaudio upgrade 530k Dkkr so .. 140.000 (9 punds pr Dkkr) = 15500 punds saved.. and still the cupra has more kit (Golf no Xenons / no DCC / some stock VW rims, that looks quite ugly)

Is the cupra a sup-par choice over the Golf? do MK3 still have all the quality issues of the older mk2´s (and Alteas) ?

any experience with the Mk3 in generel.. good and bad.

According to xe.com 421,000 DKK = just over £47,000.

£47,000!!!! :stars: For a FWD hot hatchback. That is insane.

Regarding your questions about VW versus Seat, I think VW have always been perceived as a higher quality brand. Personally, I am more concerned with the way a car drives than its image, but over in the UK VW have in the past held better residual values than Seat. People need to factor this in when making their choices and negotiating deals.

A while ago I chose a Mk2 Seat Cupra over a Mk6 golf GTI because I thought it offered more performance and better value for money. Three years later I have ordered a Mk3 Cupra 280 to replace the Mk2. You will always get differing opinions on internet forums, but I know what I would pick if considering a diesel Golf against a petrol Leon :)

thats the pricing in Denmark, nothing to do about it...

well the taxes are a lower for the first couple 60.000 i mean.. so a car like..

VW UP is aprox. 100.000 dkkr delivered ... around 11.000 punds...

but i you want a BASIC 122hk TSI Golf Comfortline its around 325.000 after rebates... so if you want something a bit bigger than a micro car, then you pay for it..

a 316i BMW with NO equipment is (cloth seats, A/C not climate, plastic stearing wheel) is around 442.000 Dkkr ...
So yeah getting ripped of, and still paying near 70% in taxes on income (50% for the first 500.000 dkkr a year)...
But.. i need a car, and im tired of 90BHP diesels / 120bhp petrol engined ..

AND thats also the reason why we focus a lot on quality, a used car in Denmark are still quite expensive, so .. writing off a car in 4-5 years is not possible for many..

although we are counting on having this payed off in 1-2 years.

so the cupra, being priced like a highline golf 140bhp, or cheaper than a childern container (danish word) like a S-Max, seems like fun, but still kinda cheap, and im not getting robbed by fuel economy

if it dips below a certain point, then the yearly "green" tax rises from 200 punds to 800 punds, it not much, but all costs needs to be factored in.

and i HATED my 320D not because of the car, but it was so low equipped, std stereo only aircon and so on..

going from my old FR to that was annoying.. the old FR were bought as a "VAN" so i could get it for 30% tax (an old, now closed loophole in danish tax law) so i payed 21.000 punds for it FULLY loaded brand new.
