New disks damaged by garage!

Hi all!

Just had a local garage press new bearings/races into new rear disks for my ibiza and the machine they've used has left groups of gouges across the front/rear disk surfaces![:@]

These apperently have been created by the press clamps which "dont have plastic feet"

I was told that sanding would sort it but all this did was remove the burring, with the gouges still very evident with a fingernail.:(

I've not accepted them back on the grounds it will cause early uneven wear of the pads and ridges on the disk. They said they will replace the disks and remove and refit the bearings.

Questions I've got are:

1. Am I right?
2. How did the gouges get there?
2. Will this removal/re-installation damage the new bearings/seals?
3. How do I ensure the parts are the like for like original SEAT parts I purchased?

Any advice appreciated!

Sven

Cheers for the reply!

If its avoidable the I think I'll hold my ground - I really wont feel happy/confident fitting them as is.

They are quite deep!

Seriously, that 'damage' wont have affected the structural integraty at all.

Say some twonk dings your car, do you not drive it on safety issues?

If you dont use em, I'll have em:)

NOPE!

I'am not questioning the structual integrity - the point is that they were'nt like that before so why should I accept them back!!(You said yourself its avoidable) I'am shure most people if given these disks would'nt want to fit them otherwise they'd come made like that! Just trying to get an informed opinion but I see it has to come with a measure of sarcasm?

Say you buy some new parts and some twonk hands them over and there obviously damaged, do YOU say "Thats fine - dont trouble yourself replacing them with some that are undamaged - I'am shure they'l be fine, I'll take your word for it and I'll pay full price"

Your sounding like the perfect customer but a bad person to buy a car off!:D

Moi - Sarcastic?  ;)

Avoidable yes - but the fact they're perfectly servicable, I personally cant see what the fuss is about:shrug:

You may feel morally wronged as you've presumably paid someone to press the bearings in and they've damaged them & feel you're owed replacments FOC - potentially alot of greif with little gain if not morally.

Ive bought parts before which are damaged, however I wont begrudge a motor factor as the box for the bits come in is is squashed and held together with sticky tape...........

You're right I wouldent by a car off me
