Hello, I'm a new member and live in Spain. I've joined because I'm ordering a new Formentor and wanted advice on which model to go for, I have an appointment at the local Cupra dealer this Friday and have to decide between 1.5 etsi 150 cv, 1.5 tsi e-hybrid 204 cv or 2.0 tsi 204 cv all with dsg. Although now in my seventies, I am used to having cars with good performance, my current car is a BMW 118D (mapped to 190 bhp) so wouldn't want to be disappointed. Your thoughts welcome on all 3.

Welcome, Steve. I'm relatively new here myself. In all honesty I can't speak with any authority on your options, but from my point of view, I'd avoid the hybrid - it's just more to go wrong, imho. I had a PHEV for a year and have gone back to a good old 2.0L petrol engine. Less economical, but hopefully fewer potential issues too. My current car (VZ2, 2.0L 333ps) has plenty of grunt, but it's not one of your options. My personal favorite of your 3 options would be the 2.0L tsi, for no reason other than it's the more powerful of the 2 non-hybrid options.

We have had our V2 204 Hybrid since Dec. Had a few issues (car is back with dealer again now) with it but i don't believe they are due to the fact its a Hybrid.

So i am very new to the Formentor and Hybrids. But i would only suggest a hybrid if you are going to keep it charged the vast majority of the time (for us thats not ideal and in hindsight a petrol would have been a better bet). So if it were me i would opt for one on the petrols, ideally the 2.0 but having said that the 1.5 is still great to drive and probably plenty fast enough certainly round town.

Thanks for your reply, although the 330ps would be my choice if there were no other considerations, the car tax would be horrendous. Did you have any problems with your PHEV or was it simply that the driving experience was not what you wanted.

My PHEV was a '24 plate Renault Captur - I had no problems with it, but the frequent charging regime became a pain in the butt. Also, It transformed me from being someone who enjoyed driving into someone who was constantly concerned about eeking out the best mileage from the little EV battery. The novelty wore off after about a year and the PHEV had to go. It was the driving equivalent of swallowing a bottle of sleeping tablets.

...as for car tax - yes it's horrendous in the UK too, but you have to pay for your pleasures.

Thanks for your comments, charging regime wouldn't be a problem as we have a gated drive with car port and power point, it's the actual driving experience that matters most. Questions that spring to mind are: would the 1.5 etsi be too slow, would the 1.5 PHEV be a good drive compared with the 2.0 tsi and in future would it be more sensible to go with the PHEV because it may be the only type of vehicle allowed into larger towns. This will be a long term ownership, probably my last car purchase. Also, the only demonstrator at the dealer is a 1.5 etsi so not possible to make comparisons.

EA888Gen3 vs EA211evo2

I would vote for the triple-8 😅
