New RTS clutch problem.

Hi,

I have been using this forum since I got my Cupra 290 back in 2018 and until now I’ve managed to find any information I have needed without having to register.

So I suppose getting involved is long overdue.

I have recently taken the plunge and had a stage 1, as it was a manual I went for a 95 Ron map. My plan was to run it until the clutch went then upgrade and go to a 99 ron. Well the clutch lasted a week, to be fair it was on 46000 miles and it started slipping before the map.

So in it went for an RTS twin friction clutch, Sachs fly wheel, block bleeder and braided lines. The cost would bring a tear to a glass eye, but I’ve planned this for a long time so i’m all in.

I was given a piece of paper instructing me on how to bed in the clutch. Gentle city type driving, change up early and often etc. 750 miles was the number I was to aim for. So for 800 long, boring miles I drove like an old man. No more cupra or sport mode, it was comfort all the way. With one caveat I did 200 motorway miles.

I got to the magic number and was finally able to give it some. I’ll be honest it was a bit underwhelming the power is there but only really at higher revs, it really takes off when it’s likely to put me in jail. I put this down to the relative lack of torque due to the 95 ron map.

Anyway I took it in for the full tune and I got a call saying, the clutch biting point is too high we aren’t happy doing it. They want to drop the gear box and check the new clutch to see if it’s either been ruined by me ie I’ve not bedded it in properly or it’s a manufacturers defect. Obviously if it’s my fault then I’m liable if not it’s on them.

I’m just curious if anyone else has had anything similar happen to them or if it could be something else that’s causing the high biting point? It hasn’t slipped once. As far as I’m concerned the biting point hasn’t changed since it was fitted but they said they wouldn’t have let it leave if it was. To be clear I am in no way pointing the finger at them, I could well be at fault and if it turns out there’s hot spots on it then I’ll just have to take my medicine. I’m just interested if anyone’s got any ideas?

Thanks a lot.
