New SEAT Leon Cupra Pricing confirmed for 240PS

You say that about Brembo brakes but manufacturers are going away from them (Jaguar for example) as they are not capable of stopping the car as well as others. I have also been told than Brembos will not be fitted and R32 brakes will be used. Perhaps Mike can confirm this?

I'm surprised about that, as if anyone knows how to make brakes then Brembo should. Don't they make Porsche one's. I might be wrong.

Anyway that's OT.

Cheers Mike for the update. Guess you'll let the peeps on here know as soon as you know ;)

The shots above are the lower spec brakes as std. on the euro models. The brembos that were fitted on the cars at the motorshow were about an inch bigger than the Leon R's ones. They were even as big as or bigger than the Evo 8's that were there.

personally i think AP racing will be gracing the front end, that seems to be the last big brake on a factory car for SEAT.would they field two set ups on curent models?would it be cost effective sportiness that seat aim for?AP 4 pots on a bigger disc won't cost a bomb.how different were the R brembo's from ibiza to leon calipers?

Ibiza R's pads fit the Leon's, although suspected not to last as long.

Hi,
I was told by my local dealer some time last week that the release date for the cupra had been put back from late this year to march next year, and that the reason for this was an issue with the brakes. And he sugested that Seat were saying that the brembos used on the previous cupra r were not up to the job really and that they were now looking at putting the same brakes as fitted to the Golf R32. Shame really as i need to change my car before the middle of January and it looked like a good car to replace my existing cupra r.

dealer confirmed this today when i went with deposit in hand but said the cupra was having brakes off one of the higher spec audi but would not confirm which one:shrug:

ps. he would not take my money:cry:

I would say that only a foolhardy dealer would take a deposit given the complete spec's not available (yet)

I would prefer Multi (4 ) piston AP's over brembos.

How many people have had problems with the brembos finish etc.

There again there are other big brake manufacturers out there (I have fogotten who makes the ones for the big Evo FQ's) and they are supposed to be good.

What does the R32 run?

Re the price, I think £20K is a bit much TBH, a £2K hikeove rthe old model for and extra 15 bhp and and bumpersl that appear to the same as the lower spec cars but with a bit of black paint. I am concerned that people will buy these to find out in 6 months time they will undate the aro pack with one off bumpers etc.

Yes the seats are nice but not worth £2K, similar war standard in the fords, vauxhalls etc.

Before you go on about the headlights etc, look at the civic's etc, these are standard on their cheaper sporty models.

The dealers best be offering a good discount to get decent sales, the other marques are having to do this.

Even without Brembo's they are still huge discs, they almost entirely fill the inside circumferance of the 18" wheel, and the calipers are almost the same length too.

I have no doubts it will stop well.

Regardless of the brakes that finally end up on the car, in my mind £20K is still a little on the high side for a Seat.

The Focus ST, Astra VXR, and new Mazda MPS are similarly priced and in the Mazda's case more powerful (albeit f-ugly).

I know people will compare the new Cupra to the Golf GTI and sporty Audi A3 and say it's well equipped and better value etc. but I don't see it competing with these premium brands (purely on image alone).

At £17.5K-18K it would sell loads. At £20K (without options) it's a tad expensive.

Still want one though..... :)

the problem is if they made it 17.5k, that's FR money, so reduce the FR, which means reducing all the other models too

which would almost make it 'too cheap' at the bottom end

Also not forgetting its not SEAT UK Registered Charity
