Recon turbos are usually on an exchange basis.

I think if I pay the surcharge I can keep mine. And the surcharge is likely to be no more than 100 hopefully this means I will at least get some money back on ebay

Just a question that has popped into my head... from what I've read turbo manufacturers recommend replacing the oil feed and return when fitting a new turbo, but when getting a quote from youngs garage wrotham, they said they only replace if damaged/twisted during removal. What do you guys think about this?

Another question, some people have suggested if about to spend 1k on turbo why not upgrade so that I don't have to worry when the next oem one is going to fail. I don't know too much about turbos, so can anyone suggest any alternatives to oem. In all honesty im not bothered about extra power (although it would be a bonus) more interested in reliability. Also if I do go up in power I dont more than 200. I would be happy with about 170 as I know the fr handles this easy.

Check out dark side developments mate these guys are top dollar for tdi vag cars. I'd love to have the money to get a turbo upgrade.

Believe me I dont have the money which is why im holding off so much and want to come up with the best solution for long term reliability. There are too many cases of 2nd amd 3rd turbos going evwry 30k.

Through a cruel fate it seems that I may also have the siren noise lol. Best start saving for for a dark side developments bigger turbo kit. Should be like 220bhp

Im a little worried over this, i have just had my stage2 and Dpf delete done and can hear my turbo now through the exhaust, is this because i've had the Dpf delete done??? Its like a whistling noise, mayb like a siren but i'd say whistling mostly

I take care to never stop straight after driving i let it tick over for around 45 seconds @ least + i never drive it hard from cold.

mines a 170 fr pd with 62000 miles on the clock. do they use the same turbo as the 140 pd???

Gonna invest in a turbo timer me thinks need to save what little life if has left lol plus there's a cool shift light included which adds to the motor sport look I like lol

Yeah they are different. The 170 has a bigger laggier turbo and theres another difference but I can't remember what it is lol.

Ok cheers, I wonder why the 140's eat turbo's then. You'd think with the 140 been in so many different vag models they'd have put the most reliable turbos in.

Saying that I've just moved over from bmw diesels and the 177bhp 2.0 litre diesel has a habit ( in a lot more than a few cases ) of getting the dreaded timing chain rattle which is an engine out job to replace as the chains right upto the bulkhead...average repare price £3500/4000 gulp..

Got to the point that i will be purchasing the turbo soon. Should i go turbo technics or midland turbo?
