My wiper linkage is seized solid, it's not coming apart at all and now the thread is damaged. Looks like I'll have to take the hit on getting another one, but as expected Toledo parts are thin on the ground.

Does the Mark 2 Toledo share the wiper linkage with the other mark 4 Golf platforms? There's a few actually off Golfs that seem decently priced, would they work?

Any pointers would be appreciated.

From what I have heard yes they do, but again I will reitterate that is just heresay..
I will check as best I can and see if I can get you a definitive answer.

It turns out that my current linkage is from a Skoda Octavia, so it does look like they're interchangeable. I may have found a Toledo linkage now though, thanks for responding.

I'm 99% sure thats what I paid, will see if I have the receipt at home tonight

Sometimes parts can be sensible at the stealers. I had to wait for it to arrive in to them though so its not always ideal if you can pick up a secondhand one locally. I refused to drive mine until I had fixed it as sods law I'd be in the middle of nowhere when it started to rain with no wipers because of a seized linkage

I damaged mine while I was taking it apart, I had planned on a simple grease and re-install but it wouldn't budge. And I didn't fancy getting pulled over due to the blatantly obvious thing that my car had no wipers!!

I managed to damage one of the wiper arms when I put them back on. Think I did it up a bit too tight and it snapped where it attaches to the motor, new arm from the scrapyard and problem sorted

What are the early signs? Noticed this morning that mine are a bit clonky at the very first instance they start to sweep. Work fine and speeds ok...... but. They are going to be battling snow and ice for the next 6 months so want them up for the task.

Personally mine just went slower and slower until they stopped. Problem is that they had been going since I bought the car, and because I didn't know better I didn't get it sorted. When I put the new linkage on the wipers were so much faster than they'd ever been.

'Clonky' doesn't sound too bad, you might find that the arms are just a little loose on the spindles. But if you have half an hour spare, take the linkage out anyway and check things move easily.
