Just after an opinion: I've been helping a relative look for a car, and we've found a 2013 Ibiza FR TSI that looks OK. All the usual checks seem alright and the car seems pretty genuine, but we turned up with a laptop and a VCDS cable, and the dealer refused permission, saying that a previous customer had damaged an ECU once because their laptop had a virus.
That seems quite unlikely (I've worked in IT for more years than I care to remember, and while I can totally believe a laptop with a virus, one that infects a car via the diag socket seems extremely unlikely), but whatever. He claims that the warranty offered would cover any problem (yeah, of course it will!)
How reasonable or unreasonable would you think this is? Has anyone here rocked up with VCDS when buying a car? What was the response?
