lo everyone,

picked up my seat ibiza 1.2 tsi on saturday 16th. During this day i did 90 miles, in which the car developed a loud ticking noise from the engine, a weird vibration from turbo actuator, and misfired on 3 cylinders.

as service department was closed sunday, and it was late on the saturday the faults occured, i waited till monday, when i dropped the car off.

I had the car back wednesday with all faults supposedly 'fixed', in which in 5 minutes i turned round and asked them to pick the car back up, having them done nothing about the misfiring issue, nor the ticking noise or turbo actuator.

They then rung me today to tell me the car sounds 'normal' and here i am back with a car im not happy with :/

has anyone else experienced any similar problems? and where do i stand in terms of getting a refund? i literally picked the car up saturday morning and have only driven it that day, since then its been back and forth and ive had no car.

thanks for reading :)

i have video'd it, but they say its 'normal', and showed it next to another 1.2 tsi with the same ticking noise. But ive asked mechanics, friends, colleagues and they all say that it should simply not make that loud of a noise. And just because another tsi does it, doesn't mean its normal. Ive seen a parked up 1.2 tsi identical to mine waiting for somebody, and it was idling with no ticking noise at all :/

thanks for your reply

just add h.t.t.p.:././ without the dots at the beginning :) (wont let me post links yet)

try that

thats the car on idle, and ive seeken advice from a VW technician, and two came out, and both said the idle is normal but rather loud, normally they are quieter, and the turbo should not be making that noise. surprisingly, the ticking sounds quite quiet in the video, on my phone its another story :p its actually quite loud in person, even with the bonnet down you can still here it, and also through the dash. its loudness is intermittent, sometimes its really loud, and other times its barely there, which leads me to beleive that theres something wrong.

the video is just of the idle, will take one of the turbo rattle later if required.

also, i dont really want to go 30 miles down the road to the other seat garage just because my guys arent being very helpful. Id sooner have my money back or an exchange than stick with the one ive got, ive lost all faith in it as its literally had 3 faults from day one, all of which remain.

thanks :)

cant get that link to work with all th http etc

Has it had the recall done on the turbo? There was one for the 1.2 TSI recently, do a search.

In terms of getting rid of the car, you could try and swap it for another SEAT if you bought it under the approved used scheme with the 30 day exchange, but it would need to be totally not fit for purpose if you where going to get a refund.

try n paste it without the http, worked for me :)

and yes the turbo has had the 2mm spacer fitted - hasn't fixed the issue at hand though :/

and i asked for an exchange, they still said no, despite offering a 'quibble free exchange policy' where you can return the car 'for any reason'??

n the car isn't really fit for purpose at all, its a year old, and had 3 faults occur on day one, and its been in the garage since. whole reason i bought a newer car was to avoid faults and problems :(

If you have the exchange policy and it's wrote down on paper demand it, then speak to the manager and tell him you will start legal proceedings

dont have the exchange policy terms and conditions on paper anywhere, was never given them. however it does state on their website:

What makes an ‘Approved Used’ SEAT?

All Approved Used SEATs have:

A 12-month SEAT guarantee
A 30-day unlimited mileage exchange promise
etc etc etc

But there aren't any terms i can find?

Yeah, i bought it from SEAT direct, its one of their approved used cars.

It says on the bottom of the website 'terms and conditions apply, ask at your local dealer'

But, when asked for, was not given :S was simply told that i dont qualify for it?

Ask them to explain why speak to the highest person there then threaten legal action. If you have to take it to head office

Had to do this with my sisters 18month old mini cooper convertible 19k worth of car and broke down three times and needed 10garage visits for 'issues' after a lot of hone calls, emails, etc they took it back and replaced with a brand new mini cooper (not convertible) as she wanted lower monthly payments

I know this is an old post and hope you have it sorted by now. If its on the website and its approved used then there should be something about exchange policy somewhere on t&c's before I signed for mine I had to sign legal documents to state they had made me fully aware of amount to pay, apr and exchange policy etc. if these parts haven't been explained or covered i'm sure they are breaking the law (i'm no splicitor so not 100%). Again print the webpage out demand to speak with a manager (don't deal with staff). Then if you still want to start legal proceedings you prob have a right to, but it will cost you and they ain't cheap!!! Try to resolve it first, i do feel for you because i have experienced first hand how crap overall they are. Dealt with two separate dealers and both equally as crap!!

The ticking noise is easy to fix, you just need a piece of pipe insulation and put it on the fuel line in the top left hand corner of the engine bay.

Yep its really irritating, I haven't heard the noise since I installed the pipe insulation. Really stupid design flaw, why they put a pipe that rattles straight against metal I have no idea.
