Number plate light wiring

Noticed one of my number plate lights had stopped working so I bought some new led number plates which look easy enough to fit. However when i went to fit them i found that the connector was not connected to the actual housing of the light. I used a screwdriver to pull the headlight out and just the housing came out by itself with no wiring or anything connected. I tried to put my hand in and grap the wiring but couldn’t feel it. How am i supposed to find this ?

The wiring is behind the bumper, not in the tailgate .

You could remove the other lamp and see if you can find the connector.
