Oil filler funnel

Has anyone used the oil filler funnels that screw onto the filler hole? Getting fed up using a normal funnel and invariably spilling oil.

I see several different kinds on the net but not sure which ones will work best, fit the car and some cost more than the oil! Any experience of these things welcome.

Honestly, a clean empty water bottle with a large cap neck cut in half, fully dried. (Suggest one that is smooth rather than with bits for gripping, Volvic flavoured bottle or something)

Cost - £0, works perfectly, eco friendly, screws in tight.

Sounds interesting, I'll try that. I would have thought the neck would be too small.

It won't seal though so if you pour in more than the hole can accept it's still going to spill. The filler hole has a baffle in it so you can only pour oil in slowly.

Weirdly the volvic flavoured water bottles have a comically large cap neck. Same as Lipton's ice tea, gigantic. I've never once had any spillage issues using them but I also don't pour in millions of litres at once, slow and steady.

I use a large Coca-Cola bottle.

I just poor the oil directly in! - bottle on its side to deduce glugging.
Works for me and no funnel clean up.

I was lucky(?) enough to buy a Laser Tools oil filler funnel that grips/seals the older oil filler point - the ones that the cap has 2 "stick out" locking in parts, I bought that cheaply and used it since maybe 2001 until now on VW Polo 1.4 16V, same for SEAT Ibiza, Audi S4 and VW Polo 1.2TSI, filling up the 2019 SEAT Leon Cupra was not so easy, so I think that I reverted to using a clean but very old smallish plastic funnel.

If/when I convert to running a car with an EA888 engine, I'll be buying one of the ones being sold on ebay where you buy the basic bottle/funnel, and then also buy the correct adaptor for it to suit your present engine - that type will attach-seal onto the engine okay it seems.

Yes, I've seen these. Just trying to figure out which ones are decent quality. Reading the reviews some say that the tabs on them are weak and bend. I'm also wary of cheapo Chinesey plastic that might break off and fall into the engine!

I'm surprised there doesn't seem to be a VW Audi part available. What do the garages use?

I service three cars in April and my son comes out and does his too. Pouring straight in is hopeless. It wasn't too bad when it was just going straight down a hole but these stupid baffles they've put in the filler neck are terrible.

Maybe the main dealers use a bespoke filling/metering system and that would cost a lot money.

It is Gunsons brake bleeder kits that I have or had trouble keeping in good working/sealing condition - but I bought a used VW Group brake master cylinder complete with fluid reservoir - and so ended up having enough bits to dry test my Gunsons kit/kits before the 2 yearly brake fluid replacement. (as well as having a vacuum brake bleeder kit!)

Edit:- I've tended to find that when you buy DIYer quality car servicing things, as long as you take care using them, they will no cause any problems.

Don't do brake fluid changes any more. Doesn't matter how you do them, it's a pain. Especially on a driveway. These days I just give it to a garage to do. You get to that age ;0)
