Oil filter cooler thingy!?!?

Hi folks, what the hell is the thing behing the rads on the leon fr tdi that looks like a little intercooler and has oil in. It bolts on to the engine block. I have a crack in mine and need to get it replaced but not sure what it is. I am guessing that its either a oil filter or oil cooler? I would post a pic of it but cant until later. Anyone know what the hell im talking about !!

The only small radiator you would possibly have is an oil cooler. All turbo cars have them to provide cooling for oil in the engine which is subjected to heating from the turbo shaft. If you are of a modding mindset, you can get something a little more efficient, however suspect that the standard unit is well placed and efficient enough for whatever the engine output can get to.

yep correct its and oil cooler, under the oil filler on TDIs, a small metal block. They can break down inside and you end up getting oil in the water. It also serves the purpose of the other way round in the cold in that the water (which warms up faster than the oil) helps warm the oil up quicker for better efficiency.
