A 2011 Leon would be a Mk2 not a Mk3. The oil pump is already chain driven.

What problems are you having with the oil pump?

There is no belt that drives the oil pump. It is driven by a chain.

Are you getting confused with the water pump? Perhaps speak to the garage be certain of what they are saying.

Ah my apologies... When you said it was a 2 litre CR engine I assumed it was the 170 engine. Completely my fault... I had the sump off my CR170 a few months ago to replace the rear oil seal and knew it was a chain I had seen on the oil pump.

To be honest, given how long it has lasted I would just fit a new belt. It's very unlikely it will be a problem for you again. You would have to swap out the crankshaft and oil pump if you wanted to move to the chain setup. That's more hassle than would be worth it IMO.

Interesting - Your engine should be the older EA189 and I didn't realise these had oil pump belts in oil like the newer EA288! but seems they do ;)
Belt PN looks like it is 03L115264A - remark Z=59
you 'may' be able to retrofit an oil pump assembly from the earlier chain version - but that would also probably require crank/DMF change - very expensive!

I would just refit a new belt - making sure the pump is working well and did not cause the belt issue?

Interesting to know.
My EA288 184 TDI also has a small belt in oil to drive the oil & vacuum pump - as I mentioned, and VAG don't have any recommended service interval!!! 'Belt for life' they say...
Yes, because when if fails your engine's life will be over!

Your 11 year old engine needed a new belt - so on my reckoning I think changing these small belt's in oil every other cam belt change - so 10 years makes sense.
