Ok ill try keep to point and not ramble because i really do want some useful info i can act on please please read on.

My car 2010 Ibiza Cupra tsi (Yes the dreaded CAVE engine) 59k miles
Okada Plasma coils, Revo recommended plugs 1 stage colder

Problems after buying it....Misfiring at high rpm, Check light coming on and epc light if i didnt let off the accelerator. This was intermittent and wouldn't happen all the time.

Took it back to garage i bought it from after becoming irritated and losing confidence in the car and told them, They phoned back same day reporting nothing wrong...I'd already done a lot of research and told them yes there is i didn't waste half a day bringing the car to them if there wasn't an issue. They sent it to a VAG specialist - They reported nothing wrong too (apparently) asked for their diagnostics paperwork and surprise surprise there wasn't any.

I said if they didn't find the cause i was making a complaint to finance company which is what i ended up doing and they agreed to send it to Seat. Seat reported also nothing wrong so i demanded the diagnostic paperwork which they provided to finance company who in turn sent me it. They resolved a 'vacuum leak' but didn't tell me this when i spoke to them on the phone. All 3 denied misfires being detected even though 2 weeks prior i had my local Seat test it and one showed up on cylinder 2.

All the time they was absolutely adamant it drove perfectly so i picked it up wondering if after 2 weeks they genuinely couldn't find a fault. It drove flawlessly so i assumed the issue must have been the vaccum leak.....until now!

MOSTLY after driving the car for a good while (30mins or more) it gets very jerky and shudders between gear changes. I'm positive it's misfiring here. If i accelerate hard when its doing this the check light comes on and epc light and i have to switch engine off and on.

I have read so much including Lucifers guide and im absolutely lost as to what the problem is or what i can do. Iv'e contacted Seat UK and its never had ANY engine work done under warranty. I'm certain the clutch has slipped a few times too but that's a seperete issue i think.

Could mechatronics unit cause this? is it likely the pistons/rings, injectors, fuel pump, pcv...

Please someone shed some light, not knowing is driving me mad and i cant afford to throw money at maybes

Thanks for your patience if you've read this far

what plugs are you running?
what fuel do you use?
any modification?

NGK BKR7EIX Plugs
Since owning the car Shell V-Power. Kept all receipts too for future owner as proof.
No mods I darent until I feel confident in its reliability. .unless the Okada coils are classed as a mod lol

link to the okada coils?!

could be injectors.

ah I read this and didnt think I could chime in as I have the facelift model BUT the last thing you mentioned about juddering in between gear changes, I had a similar fault.

Does it happen between every gear like 1>2 2>3 or does it seem to be odd changing to even gears or vice versa?

Mine would judder changing from odd to even gears sometimes, then it became continuously until the engine management light came on and it refused to go into even gears so I was stuck with 1357. Called Seat Assistance out and the guy said it was the actuators for the even gears.

Went to Seat and after 2 weeks they told me it was ready and they had changed the whole mechatronics unit (after only 19k miles).

Ive not had any other problem on my car, only this one and the gear changing judder does sound familiar to my problem so it could be something with regards to the mechatronics. They may not have noticed this if they are not looking for it.

The best thing you can do is get a vcds cable+software and check the errors yourself.
f you see one particular cylinder in every single error switch the plug and coil to another one and see if the error follows. If it stays at the same cylinder and it's misfires and not fuel starve it's the piston/ring.
As far as the gears problem goes it's probably the mechatronic.

Thanks for the replies people the link for the coils is herehttp://www.okadaprojects.com/usa/applications.htm look down to polo GTI and my cav engine is listed there, they're what I've got.

The gear changes seem to be mainly 1st four and starts when engine seems hot after a long drive or sat in traffic...its like the car gets really confused what gear it wants to be in and shudders in.

Could someone link me to the vcds please as I've watched it being used a lot on YouTube but unsure what exactly it is I need to buy and where to buy it from.

Thanks

Thinking about what u said could I create some sort of log with cable and laptop whilst driving around and post it here if I get stuck?

That's really useful thank you ill order the cable and get the software and do some running tests. I'll repost back here when I'm done

ok queen ive ordered cable and software and awaiting on arrival but i was wondering if you or anybody else that have used vcds could answer couple of questions.

I understand the setup and how to start and save a log but firstly what channel is the cylinders? and can i log data from other parts simultaneously such as injectors, fuel pump, coils etc in the channels below?

Difficult to explain without knowing all the correct terminology etc but any help appreciated

Thanks

Hey, sorry for the late reply.

First, you can just do an auto scan, that'll check all modules and if there are any errors present it's gonna show them.

If you want to log the car while driving, select control module>engine>measuring blocks, this will open a tab on the right where there's a brief explanation of every block, then you can tick any box you like, such as rpms, misfires per cylinder etc.

Just remember that the more boxes you tick the more the sample rate drops, so you should do your logs in "blocks", for example 1st run rpm-boost (it's described as charge in vcds)-throttle position-misfires, 2nd run rpm-lambda-short term fuel trims-long term fuel trims etc.
In every run you should tick the rpms so you'll know where the car had the error.

Finally, you press start and off you go, I do my runs starting in 3rd @2000rpm full throttle up to 200km/h.

When the runs are over, you press save, you can read them with excel (it's a comma delimited file).

That's extremely helpful queen and very much appreciated. As soon as my cable and software arrive ill crack on with it. Made sense everything you said especially after watching all the videos on YouTube and reading various faq's on Ross tech site. Post back with all the info I get

Ok Queen my cable and software arrived and after some messing about trying to get it to work i did. Ross Tech have updated their software so i had to d/c from the internet to avoid having to update the hex from 1.93 to 1.94 (i tried updating but it kept failing). Anyway i have to use advanced measuring blocks too as the normal ones are greyed out and i think its because i dont have a genuine RossTech CAN cable.

I performed and autoscan and saved that log showing plenty!! i then cleared the errors and went for a short drive...i thought i had started the log properly but i didn't so i only have a second autoscan showing the misfires which i caused deliberately by accelerating hard which ended abruptly in 3rd gear around 5k rpm due to check light and epc!!

How do i show you the 2 log files? how do i start a log using adv measuring blocks so it saves the driving data as i had many misfires during driving but the autoscan only logs the serious ones that cause cylinder disabling.

thank you so much

EDIT: Iv'e found the log from the drive as an excel file :)

You can post the autoscan log as a picture.
You need to check the log files and see when the misfires happen, at what rpms and is it one particular cylinder?
This should help you identify the problem.

Ok i can't post as a picture as im not connected to the car at the minute and cant show the autoscan in vcds and its too big so im going to copy the first scans results in below and this is just from the engine faults, there was also radio, abs brakes and HVAC: How would i show the data log from my drive? thats saved as an excel file...

You can't post here the excel file. You need to open it and format it as comma delimited and study where the misfires occur. At what engine speed and which cylinders.
The errors you posted, seems like there's something wrong with the injectors, like over fueling. Have you cleared them?
If you can so easily make the car misfire, take it to a reputable Seat service center (someone in here must know a good one close to you), give it to them for a drive, make sure you're in the car too and tell them what to do so they can see it for themselves.
