I am looking to get into detailing and have seen a lot of different brands popping up in other posts, poorboys products seem to pop up a lot and I'm just wondering if any of you on here have any experience with poor boys and what are your opinions?☺️

Anyone that uses any other products please feel free to comment, thanks!

I was recommend poorboys wax by someone at work.

I've not used any sort of wax on my cars before so I'm afraid I can't give you an opinion compared to others.

Only that someone I know who is into his cars recommended it.

I've been using p.b's black hole glaze and nattys blue wax for a while now can't recommend them enough, we've got 2 black cars with a third on the way and the combo of the two products give a really deep rich gloss. Goes on easy, stays looking good for ages and is pretty cheap compared to a lot of others on the market. (The blackhole glaze smells amazing too :) )

Ahh great my cars black I'm currently looking on eBay at a set, it consists of a 16oz bottle of black hole glaze and a tub of blue wax with 2 applicator pads all for £25.00 which I think is a decent price for decent quality stuff! Thanks for your input mate

Hi there ... You can't go wrong with poorboys I use the ex-p sealant and liquid nattys wax and get some fantastic results.

In 5 years or detailing I can say poorboys products never fails me

Only other manufacturers I'd recommend is meguiars and finishkare

With them products just hand polish tbh.

If your fancying going down the machine polishing line there's some great chemical guys tutorials on YouTube which would be worth a watch , they even recommend which of their compounds / pads to use on different paint types

Poorboys are really good, and pretty good value for money. They're about comparable with Chemical Guys in the products they do although CG do a much larger range now... I think there's a bit more snake oil in the CG products though (as in much of the market of course!)

Don't know as I've ever got much out of glazes really (like Black Hole etc) - suppose it mostly depends on how much you enjoy working on your car!

[Machine polishing is a bit of an art, but it's not necessarily too expensive to get one - just don't be sucked into paying hundreds for machines etc - they do basically the same job as the cheap random orbitals and unless you're going into business, you can spend £30 and get a perfectly adequate one!]

Oh. If you want to get REALLY in depth, Detailing World (google it) is a good place to get started - there are some good traders linked to on there who will have a much better range and expertise than the people on ebay. And the prices are just as good if not better.

No problem, have fun!

Another thing to try before you wax etc is the new 'clay' mitts / cloths, to get the tar and whatnot off. (Halfords do an OK one) They're easier than the classic clay bars, but use something as lubricant (shampoo or QD). And Iron X is apparently pretty amazing at cleaning wheels of all the brake dust etc.

Again, there are LOADS of alternatives out there, and just as many opinions as people (if not more). Wouldn't get too worked up on brands but if you find something a bit hard work (lots of polishes for instance are quite hard to buff off) then look for an alternative as there's usually a product that works just as well but isn't so much effort. And unless you're crazy the expensive stuff isn't worth it (whatever product you're talking about). It's really easy to get totally carried away and spend hundreds on different products... most of them work about the same and the end product is also about the same. So why waste money :)

No doubt someone with a Concours-style wax that costs £1k+ a pot will argue, but then see above! Personally I'd rather spend £10 on a nice pot of e.g. Natty's and go on holiday with the difference but hey.

They have arrived, I'm a complete noob when it comes to this stuff has anyone got any specific techniques when it comes to using black hole and nattys paste? Cheers!

There's some great vids on youtube which will give you detailed directions and detailing world is a fantastic source of info (can be a little overwhelming if just staring out). Just make sure you paint work is good and clean to start with, you don't want to be rubbing dirt and grit into your paint and take your time I'd start by doing a panel at a time.
