Well i've had my 1.4 for about 6 months now, and im already in love with the Mk2...cant imagine any other car living up to it. So i've been looking for a Cupra for the last few weeks, and havnt been able to find anything im interested in untill a few days ago.
Had a look on Autotrader, and i've found this...
media

details here

It looks like a tidy car, i've had a word with the seller and it all seems alright, only problem is that the cars in torquay, which means about a 5 hour drive if i want to go and look at it. So just thought i'd get some of your opinions on it before i travelled all that way. Is the price reasonable? it has service history and a recent cambelt change according to the seller.
Also, is there anything specific to the 8v i should check for if i do go and see it?

cheers,
Dan

That looks really nice mate. I have the same car in Kiwi Green on R-plat . Mine was advertised at 2k when I bought it in April this year but managed to get him down a bit and ended up paying £1700.00 with one owner from new, fsh with stamps and receipts and every mot and tax disc from new, something of a rarity these days!

Car is near mint and had 72k on clock when I bought it which makes yours seem a steal at £2100.

It's a great price to pay and looks quite genuine mate. Just do your normal checks and everything will be fine I'm sure.

Check for:

Rust on arches, rust round corners of back window, makesure panels are all straight and same colour (spoiler may have a little tarnish but this is normal) Car should pull really well at very low rev's, being 8v, which is a huge advantage over 16v!

Check clutch as they're very clumsy on Cupra's and can be quite sticky/jerky, which is normal, apparently! As long as it's not slipping it should be fine!

Can't really think of anything else mate as they're such a good reliable car.

Go look at it, it will be on your mind until you do, just makesure owner knows where your travelling from as he'll feel bad if he is bull shitting you! I'm sure you won't be disapointed

That looks really nice!

I would say the price is a little high, but if its in really good condition then its not too bad.

I only say its expensive though cos I was looking for an ibiza for a while and eventually got one for less than £1000 and its a 16v with low mileage.

Does look like a very nice car especially in white

Best thing to do is compare it against similar 8v's with exact spec/condition/mileage/service history etc etc. Do this and you'll find the right balance

Personaly, I think £2100 is a great price as it's pretty much the last year they made the mk11 Cupra and with 51k, I'd snap the guy's hand off that's with all of the above being ok, of course! and believe me, I checked out loads of Cupra's and saw some real crap!

Only the very experianced should buy at very low prices as chances are the car is hiding something!! Although this does not mean it can't be crap if you pay loads aswell. :D

Yeah that is far too pricey! Its probably because its a later model with a relatively low mileage, but people on here have picked up 8v's for like £300! granted they had like twice the mileage but is it really worth £1800 extra for few less miles??

I saw this one on ebay which with 35k on the clock which I thought was a bargain:

On another note, was just browsing on autotrader, I did not realise how cheap mk3 ibizas have become! Like seriously cheap!

If you can get the millage and cambelt change confirmed then it's not too bad. I'd be worried about the millage though. 50k miles in 8 years is very low, and we all know these cars are meant to be driven, especially the Cupra!

You can pick them up for less, but it's doubtful they will be in as good condition, or have a cambelt change and service history...

One thing to consider, you could get a tidy TDI and get it remapped for that money. Ok, it won't be a Cupra, and it will have higher miles. But if you get it remapped it will be quicker than the 8v cupra, you'll get MANY more MPG, insurance will be significantly cheaper (8v Cupra is group 11 and the TDI is group 7), and it will last MUCH, MUCH longer!

The main thing for me would be the MPG. You can get 35 MPG from the 8V Cupra, and 58 from the TDI. Get it remapped and it's a no brainer - as long as you don't mind not owning a Cupra. ;)

After selling my pre face lift 8v gti for a 16v cupra sport i thought that low end performance would be lacking, however the cupra pulled equally if not better and past 4k it was a totally different animal!!

Yeah would say its quite pricey, dont know the current book prices but you have to remember that the car is nie on 10 years old. Must admit you dont see many white cupra sports tho
