As some of you may be aware iv ordered a Special Edition Altea

upon looking over the car for the third time ( just cant keep away ) iv noticed a few things.

1. Seat has deleted the two tear boot cover ( i am told its also gona be deleted from the options soon to.

2. The engine cover is no longer supplied, im going to purchase one anyway cos it looks crap without one.

3. iv notice theres no ash tray in the car, not that i smoke i use it for change.

i'll be interested to hear if anyones purchased a car this year that has been supplied with these parts.

cheers

I don't know why SEAT have decided to get rid of the upper boot floor as it is quite useful although it is a pain if you want to carry something quite large and have to remove it. Regarding the ashtray presumably you smoke but my car came with a cup that fits into one of the two recesses in the centre console, as I don't smoke I don't use hence keep it in the glove box. Maybe SEAT are trying to portray an anti-smoking attitude and no longer provide them.!!

What do you do if you opt for the spare wheel and you don't have a cover. Do you just stick stuff on top of the spare wheel. That sounds like needless cost cutting on Seat's side. Gives the user a bad feel, ditto the engine cover.

They probably forgot to stick in the cup as for the ash tray. I don't use mine either, I have mine wrapped up in a duster so it doesn't rattle in the glovebox.

Aceman, you said 'although it is a pain if you want to carry something quite large and have to remove it', i used to think this, but it does actually concertina away from you and folds down quite compact direct behind the back seats. It sounds as though you're not doing this, pse correct me if i'm wrong. Happy folding !

Tell, I think newbi is refering to the upper false floor that can be removed not the one covering the spare wheel, it has been talked about before.

I don't have anything covering my spare wheel except the upper false floor. Does that mean that when they deleted the upper false floor then then put something in at the bottom that goes over the spare wheel.

This all seems a mess to me since the car was designed with that false floor and that's where I stuff all the Xmas presents for the car for the rainy day, the tow rope, the inflator, the brase, the spare oil etc etc. Then all I have in the boot proper is the ice box and the rest is used for shopping. Without the falso floor I'd be bad to a cardboard box with the stuff thrown in it.

The two tier floor im on about is the second folding one about a foot up from the spare wheel which has a cover on it to cover up the spare wheel, you can also use this space for storage.

its the folding bit that has been deleted from the 2007 spec car that im on about!

i wish i had my car back so i can take a few pictures, anyway as for the ash tray mine came with one and for the record i dont smoke but i do use it for my spare change.

i wonder what else Seat have deleted form the 2007 spec Altea that we dont know about.

as for mine im gona be taking out the ash tray and the folding floor cover when my car is traded in.

It's the same folding floor that I'm talking about but reading aceman's seems that they now use a lower cover.... hold on been a while since I've looked in there, a bit of carpet that arches over the wheel. Either way it's very poor to scrap the folding two tier boot.

Good decision keeping it although you'd think the garage might want it off you. I did mutter that when cars are first bought out you get better build quality :).... although us early adopters payed for it before the discounts you get now.

Ur probably right about the dealer wanting it back!

mined you im not sure if the quality has gone down? ( what have you noticed )

and i must say the discounts these day are much better than they used to be.

Probably the quantity has gone down as they leave things off eg. the boot bit, the engine cover. Seems that the problems may remain the same, air noise, cruise control stick etc. I'm not knock it, but one of the selling points was all the extras thrown, now they are dropping them and leaving design bits off, like the double boot and the engine cover.

I have definatly got a hard floor cover directly over my spacesaver spare wheel and then the upper secondary folding floor so I think it is a bit poor if you have not got the lower floor cover Tell ot maybe do you have a full size spare which might be different as this creates a bulge doesn't it ?

Newbi, I know what you mean about folding the the cover but for a while we used my car as main transport for my daughter and putting the pushchair and all the gubbins in the back was easier with the cover totally removed. I have since put the cover back as we use the wifes scenic now but still causes a few problems every now and again.

regarding the quality issue as said it isn't really the quality of the fixings etc. it is as Tell says SEAT tend to load the cars up with equipment for 12-18 months after launch then start taking things off the standard spec like boot light, engine cover, instrument dials etc. which to jo public seem trivial things but in the scheme of things SEAT must save quite alot of money in production by deleting these from the spec. not condoning this practice as I feel you get cheeted but from a business point of view I can see where they are coming from.

Sorry Tell I wasn't refering to the Altea specifically regarding deleted features but talking from experience with my previous car an Ibiza TDI Sport, just pointing out that SEAT have a habbit of lowering the spec when a car has been on the market for 12+ months.

i had a chat with my dealer yesterday about why my car has no engine cover and no folding boot cover!

I initially asked how much they were then he said don't worry im going to ask the Seat UK agent for this area if he can supply the items as part of the sale!.

He did mention that yes they have been deleted form the car range and soon they will not be able to get hold of the folding boot floor.

But at least it looks like i will be getting the engine cover and the folding boot floor F.O.C but i still have my doubts.

Has the boot light gone as well ?. Mines a full size spare, last time I looked and it does create a bulge.

Strange one that, never heard of anyone having a full size spare before. Must be a bit of a pain to have it bulging out of the floor. My spare if covered by a carpet also and then the false floor.

It was an option, you could have either a spacesaver or full size spare instead of the puncture repair kit for £30. I chose the spacesaver as I didn't want to lose the ~40 litres of boot space with the full size option.
