Ouch. melted coil, blown fuel pump fuse. TB reset, ridiculous idle, air leak

Hi all,

Seat Leon 1.6 2005

I was recently driving and the emissions warning light came on, went into limp home mode, next day it was fine and then it died just as I got home.

It had a melted coil, which I've replaced along with a new set of spark plugs, wouldn't start, fault codes indicated throttle body issue and it ran an error while trying to run the basic settings adaption. I cleaned it, disconnected the battery, left it overnight to clear the ECU, still the same. In the end, the fuel pump fuse had blown (doh!)

I now am getting fault codes signalling an air intake leak. I have cleaned the TB and performed a reset/adaption.

The car is now turning over fine after being left for a while, but soon develops a ridiculously erratic idle and won't rev, beyond 2000rpm if even. It's undriveable.

here's the codes, bearing in mind the battery has been disconnected, ECU cleared previously. I'm stumped and looking for a bit of advice on values of sensors etc to check (I have VCDS lite, registered.

yup, I guess this fault finding exercise is about as interesting as my car

Seeing as my last request for help was so successful (I even dealt with the usual unhelpful, no codes no help attitude by providing a comprehensive breakdown, scuse the pun), I'll keep this short, reckon it's a faulty ECU, so now I need the SKC and a replacement ECU from a car with the same engine type. BCB 1.6 16v

Has anyone got any ideas as to how much this is likely to cost me, or where I can get the SKC from. Yeah I know I can get a ECU + clocks etc but if I do that will it change the cars mileage?

My next car is going to be an old old one!

Personally I think you get good and bad cars. Some people will have a very reliable car others will have nothing but trouble. I've had mine 27 months now and the only thing I've needed was coil packs and the usual maintenance. You could have just as many problems if not more with an old car. I brought a Citreon Saxo VTS when they first came out and was nothing but hassle always going wrong.

yeah, you're right ben, those VTS cars were nice though, really nippy at the time, I actually really enjoy fixing/working on cars most of the time, this one's just been a bit of a pain, so many things in the past year, alternator went too, and the starter motor needs refurbished but I've forgotten the size of the bolt that I need to get a crows foot type socket bit to remove it.

Anyway, found my SKC (secret key code or whatever it is) so should be piece of pie to fix now, watch this space. A crappy ECU I guess could've contributed to any other problems, and in particular, the coils, fuelpump chain of events.

So for anyone reading this thread in the future, I'll update it with procedure for pairing my ebay bought same engine code ECU via vcds (still not sure the lite version will do this but that's what tonights reading will be on.

But for a little amusement, have a wee chuckle at my expense by contemplating the actions of what must be a man of unstable mind. It's sunday night, I just bought a 1992 saab 900 turbo convertible on ebay and it's in port talbot, which is 449 miles away. I'm going to look at routes for the drive home, and transport costs to get there, oh dear, what have I done
