Went to Chessington today. Parked my car up in the hotel car park and returned an hour later to find a nice big scrape along my drivers side door. No note, nothing on cctv and no car there when I parked up or returned. Sat in a puddle crying myself into a hysterical mess to hyperventilate and almost pass out ! My insurance excess is £300 which doesnt thrill me to bits. So can anyone recommend a good car bodyshop in the sussex area ? I will post pics up when its lighter tomorrow and I have enough energy to cry again - my poor beautiful green beastie

You didn't say on MSN, but if its just a scrape, or even a bit of a dent, I'm sure a good bodyshop can pull it out and fix the door up nicely, and it won't cost that much :)

Might even be a good chance to de-rub strip - if you have the laquer lines mine suffers from, they can knock the paint back and sort it out at the same time

I there's one thing I hate!!!

I've had a scratch along the n/s rear quarter pretty much all the time I've had the car (approx 4 1/2 years), just so damned expensive to get fixed!

I had a Chipsaway dude come and quote for the scratch and a little chip in the n/s wing and the fella wanted £200!!

If I caught the person/s who did it....

My heart goes out to ya, sickening.

Its 2 Big scrapes about 6 inches with a dent in the top scrape, scratched door handle and scratched bump strip. If it hadnt been for that strip of black plastic it wouldve been much worse. I quite like the black bumpstrips though :) Going to try a few places tomorrow to get a few quotes, there just arent many good reputable places around here.

Feel a bit silly as from the way I was crying you would think someone had died !!!

Ouch :(

Why did I never manage to remove the doors from the donor car - would have been a straight swap and away! grrrr

Thats just crap :(, why carnt people have more care for other peoples things, and own up to damaging them.

When i bought my car the passeneger door was really dented and scraped. I got it fixed, it cost me £170 for just the door to be done (but you would never know its been painted now, its very good) but then someone comes along and opens there flipping car door onto myh newly painted door.

I was furious when i found it, it is only a tiny dink in the door, but still ver annoying.

Someone also scraped round the corner of my rear bumper when i had just got the car too, of course no one put a note on the car.

I hope you get it sorted out without too much cost :)

All the little scratches on my car I can deal with as they were mostly done by me and lots of them by me when my friend owned the car. I am more annoyed that someone has just thought F$&k and driven off, a small dink you might not notice if you had done it to someone elses car but, 2 6 inch scrapes is a bit bloody obvious.

The insurance bodyshop have said I need a new door shell and need to respray the front wing and back rear quarter to blend the colour. So it could be anything up to £1200 :wtf:

Drove home and passed another bodyshop they say £450 paint and labour :ill:

Think Im having a bad week to be fair - woke up looked at the car and cried again. Things like this make you lose faith with people in general.

Can't see it'll really need a new door skin -a decent bodyshop can get in behind there and push out any dents. Then a rub down, primer and respray...I'm sure you'll find somewhere who can do it for a reasonable price soon :)

btw - do you have a male friend who could take it in? Stupid I know, but I've found new garages often treat me like they can charge as much as they like and I'll pay because I'm female

I know exactly where your coming from Nicola with that :) Im kind of pushy though and will tell them outright if I think they are ripping me off. With my excess being £300 and the work the insurance bodyshop are going to do I may end up letting them do it. Have a few more places to try tomorrow but, have got to be at work by 3pm so left it for the day. Know what my week off is going to be spent doing :(

Thank looks nasty, almost as if a wall has came up and hit it  Must have been a van or something high sided i would think.

That does seem very steep for that though, but i suppose its getting the paint blended in which will be costly having the from and rear wings painting too.

would you not be cheaper going to a scrappy , getting a door and getting it sprayed the right colour and then having the sill pulled and skimed ?

Sucks:(

Sometimes its not economically viable to just bash out the dent(s), fill, & paint, which is why they'll want to re skin the door, trouble is a new skin thats fitted will look 'as new' but the its likely that the door being 'right' is debatable.

Had a door skin replaced on the bammer, body shop did a belter of a job on the asthetics but the door had lost its rigidaty (you can push the top corner oppersite the hinges and get it to deflect ~10mm) and it went rotten at the bottom whin 3 years.

I dont think you will beat the £450 mark, I was predicting around £500.
