Last time I had my service they said that the outer skin on my back box was corroded but not to worry yet because they had 2 layers, but that I should just keep an eye on it. Anyway, I noticed today something hanging down underneath the car. Looked and it's part of the outer skin of the box, it's completely worn through. The layer underneath is fine though.

Is this something I should be looking to get fixed asap or will it be ok? MOT failure?

What kinda cost am I looking at for a new one + fitting at a dealership? Not looking to upgrade at the same time though, would like to keep it standard.

An uprated/aftermarket one will be cheaper/same price as an OEM one. but maybe someone who has upgraded will sell you their old one cheap?

mines is the same, told dealer about it before the warranty ended and they said that it was fine (they would do though would'nt they!). I never took it any further, wish i had now as i am prob looking at an MOT failure on a car that is relatively new which is shocking imo! Dealer told me that it was just the heatshield, even though it's the actual back box itself?

Thanks for the info. I would prefer new tbh but I'll see how the pennies are nearer the time lol. The only thing is that I see you're in Grimsby - it'd probably cost me the difference in fuel and time to get over there for it.

Ive not read the small print but most other manufactures dont include exhausts in there warranty as they use cheap grade steel so will inevitable rust.

It will be written somewhere along with tyres and brakes as they are parts that wear with use.

Yep, the exhaust is a consumable part along with tyres, brakes, clutch, wipers, bulbs and anything that is classed as an "adjustment"

Ahh i suppose thats the standard warranty for you! Try and wriggle out anything thats going to cost them. To be fair though, i have had a LOT done under warranty, prob half the value of the car worth of work :(

Asked at the dealers today and they said it was fine - it's a common thing that the outer skin deteriorates. Unless it's blowing it's not a problem. Thanks for the offers anyway!
