Hi guys, I've had a search around but can't seem to see anything..
My mk5 Ibiza sport coupe out temp sensor is going crazy.
It's freezing outside and reading like 58 degrees. That's if it reads anything!
Has anyone had the same issue? I've had a clout on the passenger front side of the car and it's done it since then.
Anyone how to resolve it? Or where the sensor is located?

Sounds like the sensor is broke, as far as I believe it is located in the front bumper on the passenger side which would be confirmed by the issue you are having

Thanks for your reply,
So looks like a bumper off job then? Any idea what I'm looking for and where I can get a new sensor?

Cheers

Without having any real experience of this, I'd reckon that you should be able to replace that sensor by dropping the under engine cover and then the short cover in front of it - and maybe removing a grill or foglight.

I've had the fog grills out, remove my trays and had a poke around and can't see anything obvious, I'll have another look later this afternoon, cheers RUM4MO

Maybe after you have bought a new sensor assembly you will have a better idea of what you are looking for, I think that it is a small tube at the end of a cable, and it will be located behind the passenger grill area. Also when you have the new one in your hands you will see how long the cable is so that will help you work out where to find the inline connection.

I think it's this one here:

queen, that is a brilliant picture, but it the angled black plastic(?) frames make it look like you have about 20 FMICs behind each other - I know that it is an illusion!

Anyway to the OP, if you can work out position wise, where this point is on your car, you should find a small sensor in a tube fitted into a support.

The item Queen has circled s the air temp sensor, the sensor clips into the plastic mount and then is plugged into, cost for a new sensor should be about £10 based off eBay prices of about £5.50 for the mk4 minus shipping

Hi guys I'm having the same problem on my Leon Cupra 07 38 degrees but 5 outside? Does anyone know where it's located on mine?

Hey CupraDan85,

Still haven't found the time to get the bumper off! Waiting for a nice dry day to be able to do it, unfortunately I live in Aberystwyth so I'll be waiting a while! ;)

When I get round to it, Ill definitely update the thread.

Has yours taken a bump too? Mine happened after I wrecked the front passenger side of the car :(

Na not had a knock. My dash is showing the correct temperature but my maf is showing 35-38 degrees, I have changed my maf and that didn't solve it. My temperature gauge is ranging from 65-90 all the time so I think a new temperature sensor might be a start?

If its any use, My climate control seems to depend on the Outside Air Temp when I try to keep the cabin at a certain temp. Just means if its reading 58 degrees and I set my climate control to 22 degrees.... The air is ice cold. Maybe it could be a fix for you, the sensor seems to give reading to other systems by the looks.
Let me know if it gets fixed! :)

Will keep it updated but my climate control is OK! Just read elsewhere it could be my thermostat. But I'll keep it updated

If the engine temp starts to drop when you are going down a long hill, in gear and off of the throttle, then that is classic thermostat.

So just checked on pistonheads and some guy had the same problem on his mk1 he changed the coolant sensor no joy turned out to be the thermostat. Sounds inked there's the issue thanks for your help
