Over-Inflated tyres

Hey guys

I drive round with the boot full of heavy stuff for work, so have the tyres inflated 2 or 3 psi above the recommended for a full load.

I want to take stuff out of the boot at the weekend to save on fuel consumption, but was wondering if I needed to readjust the tyre pressures every time?

If I did it this way, when the car was empty, the front tyres would still only be 1 or 2 psi over, but the rears would be more like 7 or 8 psi over. Would this be too much? Would I get away with anything like 5 or 6 psi instead?

Not something I'd do to be honest. I'd rather just let some air out then pump them back up again when I need to. Only takes a few mins. My FR was a bit skitty when the tyre place put too much air in plus it felt like driving sat on a brick.

Manufacturers expect you to cary passengers, so unless your tools weigh more than 2-3 people or have some particular settings you are comfortable with, I'd stick to what the manufacturers recommend.

If you only check them at the petrol station then they will be higher pressures as you've driven on them, warmed the tyres up and increased the pressure in them. Its best to check them at home when they are cold.
