Quite Common

Can be a sign of your turbo on its way out.... but also it sometimes isnt

Some turbos last forever doing this, some die instantly

If the owl noise has begun now, it means there is an imbalance on your turbo impeller. It is a sign of a turbo on the way our. A police siren like noise however can occur frm b
New as long as it is relatively quiet it should be ok.

I had a octavia vrs diesel and had the same problem. Ended up buying a new turbo. Sounded like a police car really annoying. I was lucky as I changed it before it broke completely. When I had the old one removed there was lots of play in the turbo

If its not loud enough to drive you nuts I would not worry too much. Mine was stupid loud. Every passenger would be looking over their shoulder to look for a police car ! Mine had 88k on the clock mind

I've got a diesel pd140, done 36k and has a very slight noise like you said, but from what I've heard it's quite common and doubt my turbo is on its way out as I drive like miss daisy! Just turn your stereo up lol.

I had a MK2 Leon FR PD170 and it did the siren and Owel noises (but not loud) from brand new. Part exchanged it after 3 years and it was still exactly the same. Personally I thought the noises were quite cool.

be careful as driving like miss daisy will cause your vnt mechanism in your turbo to coke up causing limp mode

I'm the same as u math. Was slightly more audible after dpf delete + 3" miltek + panel filter. But when it gets loud. Chances are there are issues. The owl noise is a different noise to the distant siren

The coo is very common, especially on the 1.9tdi when a straight through is put on, it's just the air from the wastegate using the exhaust like a trumpet. I assume it only happens if you lift off before the turbo is about to start to 'pull' ?

There's quite a few leons and golfs around here, all have straight through exhausts, and when they change before the turbo is about to come on they all coo. I wouldn't worry about the coo, but the siren noise can be an issue caused by what the guys have mentioned above.
Although not always, sometimes its just a sign that a turbo wasn't run in properly.

Mine does it (and always has) make the owl noise when changing gear at around 2K revs (3rd and 4th gear at least). It's the turbo winding up as you near 2K revs, but change up before it properly kicks in. At least this it what I was told/read.

3 years later and 30K miles it is no worse although I have had limp mode about 5 times in the last year.

This 'coo' also happens on mine.. a thread was started http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=333147 and I was reassured it was no major problem and nothing unusual.. but now Im a bit worried reading comments here!!

I get the noise around 70 ish, not consistant and quite infrequently but its still there.. should I be worrying or investigating further? :(

This is a TDI Thread though thats about Cupra's

The Coo noise is normal for any TDI with a Performance exhaust ie Non-Res Cat-Back,It happens when you change gear, My guess is the turbo spooling down.its not just a VAG Thing either, Scania V8 Trucks do the same.

only exception to this is the PD170 which doesnt Coo on gear changes, Im not sure why

It can be really loud if you have a straight through exhaust, ive got a straight through on mine but as i said for some reason the PD170 doesn't do it

The Coo is a different noise to the Owl noise and Siren noise though

Just a word of warning... in my experience, a pd140 and 2 1.9tdis, although the owl noise and police siren like noises can be normal if at any point your car goes into limp mode due to overboost get it checked out... after nigh on 35k of these noises my car went into limp mode three times in 2 weeks and then my turbo went!

Despite generally driving gently in traffic but always giving the car a good drive every so often to help keep things healthy!

Since had a new turbo and it stll makes similar noises!

It's weird your coo had suddenly developed, as this isn't a sign of the turbo detrimenting. Maybe a hole in exhaust? Or they stole the baffles from your muffler for scrap lol

I know a lot of people slag it, but I like the coo through certain systems. On mine its quote low and boomy and sounds like there's something epic going on in the engine.

I'm sure the neighbours hate it lol
