Paint Protection, Good or Bad???

Could anyone please tell me is it worth protecting your paint with one of the products like Diamond bright or supagaurd?

I have a White K1 coming in 2 weeks and have the option of the stealers protecting it for £250, could buy the kit off ebay for around £50 and protect it myself or just not bother.

I have a friend who is the paint shop manager at Nissan who tells me not to bother as the paint should come with at least a 5 year warranty,

Anyone had any good or bad experiences?

I didn't get it, I didn't think it would be worth it. It may be for cheap of ebay if it's the right stuff, but the first time you polish it (would require it eventually) you'll be stripping all that stuff off anyway.
I'd never buy it from a dealer, I wouldn't want some monkey putting the stuff on with a gritty sponge and putting nasty scratches in my brand new paint.

I'd just go to somewhere like cleanyourcar or autobrite or something like that and get some proper paint sealer/wax stuff and do it yourself, with love :)

All these treatments are a con. The stuff they use is cheap and most of what you pay is for them to apply it.[:@]

The things the dealers sell are really just sealants and will not last the length of time they say. Hence why they give you top up kits. The Autoglym one could be replaced by products you can get in Halfords for about £20. Super resin polish and Extra gloss protection.;)

Check out the detailing section for ideas how to protect the paint.

I have the Autoglym Lifeshine and wouldn't recommend it.

The outside was done quite well but the inside was applied really badly with white marks all over the seats and all over the windscreen. Everytime the car misted up slightly the windscreen was just a horrible mess and even 2 visits to the dealer didn't sort it.

I can't see that it gives any advantage.

Although it does work if applied well the price is the big con on these products. All they are doing is applying a wax or sealant to your paint. you would do much better have a pro detailer do a full paint correction and apply a durable product that will last better for around the same money maybe a bit more.
Like a lot of things people comment on them without having tried it first. if you want to save yourself the money and don't want paint correction then spens about a £10 and buy some and apply it yourself. It is time consuming but not that hard.

To be honest if you really want paint protection use it as a deal clincher like I did. I ended up getting mine thrown in as part of the deal. It was a case of "Give me the Lifeshine for free and I'll sign now for the car".

They claim it costs £250 or whatever, but I think the materials are less than £50, probably even less at cost, it's the labour you're paying for.

Sussed this out 2 hours before I bought my Celica when I was at the Vauxhall dealer (where I'd bought my current car at the time from) asking about what deal I could get on an Astra SRi 2.0 Turbo. It was one of the things they offered to throw in with the deal. (without even asking, so it proves how cheap it is to them)
