Guy's I need some help / advise, I accidentally scratched my car (don't ask how), here is a picture:

IMAG0196.jpg

It's right above the driver's side rear wheel arch, now it does looks like it has gone down to metal, it's about 1.5cm wide (15mm), it is deep and my nail goes in.

Now I'm pretty handy with a paint brush / have good artistic skills, but that's on canvas / paper not on metal / car's, I've bought some touch up paint for LC9Z 'black magic', what i'm trying to ask is,

1. should I do this myself with the touch up kit? start of with metal etch primer / primer, then paint and then lacquer ? I have fine brushes etc and then mop / polish / buff it over

2. should I buy a fancy kit like this one: http://chipex.co.uk/

3. Or should I take it to a pro?, I've phoned one dude and got a quote for like £85 which is basically painting the whole quarter?!!

It's doesn't look that bad to be honest, but being me I get irritated with such things.

i bought the chipex

its good but on a black car, like mine, it doesnt do as good a job as I imagine it would on a lighter car

deffo a good kit though and very easy to use

The chipex system costs £50 + P&P I believe. If you got a quote for £85 to paint the whole quarter, then I would rather spend the extra £35 and get it done :).

Save you time and money if you planned on touching it up yourself.

With the SCN discount it turned out around 40 or so quid for chipex.

Bonus being you can touch up ALL your stone chips, not just the one affected area.

I decided to DIY repair this cut on my wheelarch this morning.

I'll post up some pics of my progress soon :)

Well here is the final result, after spraying the base coat and 2 layers of lacquer the whole area was polished with 3600, 4000, 6000, 8000 and finally 12000 grit sanding cloths.

As you can see it isn't perfect, but to my eye looks a lot better than the original damage. In summary, if you want better, get the whole panel professionally resprayed.

R33f I'd get it done by pro as said in privies thread touch ups are neve that good there a quick fix for protection in my eye to have panel buy the sounds of the depth it will require a all amount of filler to to have it striped pimered and blended by me it's about £120-£170 but not to sure if that includes paint if I was you I'd touch up for the time being as best you can and if itt looks the muts then job done but if not get it resprayed I wouldn't recommend trying to do the whole wing DIY as it's really hard to blend

I'm going to touch it up myself, so far i've:

1 x layer of etch primer
1 x layer of filler primer
3 x layer's of paint coat

Waiting for it to dry overnight / leave it a few days to shrink and then 2 x layers of clear lacquer

After that, I'm going to sand it down and then mop it out. Already you can't notice it at all!, i'll upload some pictures when I'm done.
