Painting brake callipers.

I'm looking at painting the brake callipers and wheel hubs on my Leon FR. Would it be a good idea to rub them all down first? And what would be a good paint to use? I'm thinking something like Hammerite?

Wire brush and some brake cleaner and I used foliatec

Hammerite needs layered up gradually. It takes forever to dry. They need primered first, well it makes a much better job. I haven't used the folitec or however it's spelt but the hammerite is not the easiest or prettiest job especially if you don't take your time and prep properly.

Most powder coaters won't touch brakes due to the amount of effort involved in stripping them down etc

Rub them down with p320 if you have access to any guns and 2k paint will suffice

I once helped my mate sand down his Evo 8 brembo calipers and it took bloody days! In total about 15 hours? but that was a proper sand back job lol

The best paint i have ever come across in my experience is surprisingly Halfords break caliper paint. Heat resistant and you could even paint your rocker cover with the stuff!

Cost around £10 a tin and will last you ages! But i think they only do them in Red, Blue, Yellow and Black?

What you needed was one of these from Halfords, they work a treat and would have stripped all 4 calipers in about 30 minutes

Halfords paint is kack. The finish didn't even match what it was supposed to be. I know they can differ a bit but this was orange and was meant to red. The finish wasn't great either. Maybe it changes when you bake it but I don't think my aunty would like a cooked caliper in her oven.

I normally use VHT paints, after a good strip down with some wire wheel drill bits and some POR-15 prep and ready
mine desperately need done as the were seemingly at some point a messy green and now a cack yellow

I hate it when that happens. You have about 10 layers on them from previously thoughtful and methodically minded car care persons.
