When I had my passat pd140 (I know it's a different engine) but it never smoked on startup, then when I had the injectors done on the recall by VW it's always gave quite a big puff of blue smoke when started, only first thing on a morning though. A lot of people have said there cars smoke on startup after having there injectors recalled.

Ye mine gives a little puff of white smoke on start up since doing the injectors. Blue smoke is normally either coolant or oil being burnt off. Could try dark sides egr delete and cooler. U would need them to map it out after tho

It has already been remapped and dpf deleted from when I bought it. Could faulty injectors not cause blue smoke? I will post a video to show you what I mean.

Could a fault on the egrr cause misfire and blue smoke? No egr fault came up when I got plugged in the computer?

Hi Guys,

found this text in relation to excessive smoke and also problems after injector recall. what are your thoughts????

Have had a lengthy discussion about this injector recall and cars running lumpy after it and poor starting. What I didnt realise was that the injectors are actually adjustable off the camshaft apparently. Its this adjustment thats not being carried which makes the car run like a bag of nails. I was trying to work out what the tech was actually discussing so if I have it wrong or have gone off course then let me know. The injector spring has to be adjusted and then accurately fettled using a DTI. If this isnt done and the injectors just poppped in and nothing else then your liable to get a poorly running car. This is also true for cars that get a DPF delete. If running real lumpy the injectors cannot take the extra load with the DPF being removed. Tell tale signs are lots of smoke and running lumpy. As soon as the injectors are adjusted then voila you should have a well running car.

If anyone wants to add to this or correct me in any way please feel free as I want to get my head round this problem.

That's very interesting! Where would we be able to find the measurement required? That way anyone with access to a DTI can check there's

Soryy whats a DTI?

Would a good tune up company have this measurement?

Go for egr delete as others have suggested
Mine smoked on tickover had that done now seems fine

Yep that's if there not adjusting the injector rocker arm correctly
Rotate CAM until the rear of the roller of the rocker arm is at its highest point... compressing the injector the most
Screw in the adjustor screw until it bottoms out. Then back it out 180 degrees.
That's what they should be doing, but a lot have not!

Thnaks. What symptoms did you have with yours? Was is lots of blue smoke and some misfire?

The only time mine had a missfire was when fully warmed up after the 12 mile drive to work
I would leave the car stood for 1 hour so cooling down a little, went to start it would missfire
And throw a lot of blue/grey/white smoke out then clear!

So off to jbs who checked the timing and when they came to put the locking pins
In to aline everything the exhaust cam was out couldn't get the pin in!
Timing all set up with the lock tools and and vag-com for cam torsion but the car still had
Light smoke haze on tickover,I was advised to have a egr delete carried out so just had that done and now seems fine no visible smoke on tickover.
When I had the timing corrected I tried the car stood for 1 hour test and it fired up straight away no missfire no smoke!
The things I had done,

1) Injector No.4 possible seal leak due to smoke after stood for 1 hour(fixed)
2) DPF delete, now I can see visible smoke on tickover, that's why dpf was regening all the time!
3) Cam timing set correctly
4) Egr delete

Also had some new glow plugs popped in!

Mines has a little rough start and smokes all the time when engine warms up. It also starts misfiring then also. I'm thinking of taking mine to Darkside Developments to have checked out and hopefully get sorted. Could the egr valve need cleaning?

Have you had injector injector stabilization checked to see if anythings wrong
Clean egr valve but get it deleted, cheap to start with then that's ticked off!

Try to work back to basics, what leaded up to your symptoms you have now

By this do you mean so that the injectors are set right? would a professional company do this or could this be done by a normal mechanic?

i did take car to Seat to have the injectors checked. They said the injectors are and coded properly and running fine! (to be honest i don't think there technicians are good at all -they only go off what the computer tells them!!).

To delete egr valve do you have to have the map altered?

I'm sure your mapping company can check your injector stabilization for you or you could do it with vag-com if you know how,my injectors was around 0.6(1-3) number four was 1.09!
Egr delete, map stays the same its just the egr coding whats altered
