Just Waxed

Hi folks.

Just picked up my car from ecotune earlier and though I'd share my experience with anyone interested...

About 3wks ago all the DPF warning lights came on on my Leon PD170, and to cut a long story short, after a DPF pressure sensor change, VAG-COM diagnostics and a few unsuccessful forced re-gens the conclusion was that the DPF was dead.

Bad news for my bank account, but not to waste a remapping opportunity, Graeme (weeG) put me onto Stan @ ecotune who got me in on short notice for a temp fix to get me motoring again (gut the DPF and map out the sensors), with a view to getting it back in for DPF removal and remap.

So after a couple of days back in the ecotune workshop I went along after work today to pick it up - and I could tell from the smug grin on Stan's face that some good things had been happening. So a short spin around the block with Stan on-board confirmed that the grin was indeed there for genuine reasons. Total transformation! Power delivery was so smooth and it just seemed to go on and on unlike the flatness of the standard tune.

The 35mile drive home from Glasgow confirmed that the car was a different beast than the one I had a few weeks ago. I'm a very economical driver usually getting about +50mpg and I don't intend to change that, but it's nice to know the power is there when I need a bit of fun.

All in all I'm well chuffed with the results, and very happy with the service that Stan provided - he's a top bloke with a very professional attitude and a great set-up.

Cheers, Mike

The figures:
Standard: Max Power=157.0hp@3050rpm, Max Torque=285.7ft/lbs@2600rpm
Ecotune: Max Power=207.3hp@4350rpm, Max Torque=326.6ft/lbs@2700rpm

Stan's attitude to tuning is in gauging what the customer wants. He recognised that I wasn't hankering for as much power as he could possibly eek out of my engine and tailored the extent of the map to suit my needs. The result is lovely smooth power without clouds of soot when putting the boot down.

If you don't mind I'd rather not discuss the price on an open forum. It's not particularly cheap, but that included the remap, custom S/S downpipe and DPF delete - and is still nowhere near the cost of a new DPF... with very decent performance gains to boot.

What's harder to put a price on is the feeling of satisfaction that my car has been modified to a specification that I am very happy with.

Stan is very approachable - give him a call and he'll tell you what you need to know.
