Im always paranoid about the amount of noise my 2008 FR makes and id appreciate feedback from other PD170 engines.

The engine seems to make a very tractor like almost resonating drdrdrdrrdrdrrdrdr at between 1250 RPM to 1500 RPM noticeable around town and slow moving traffic. At 1000 rpm and 1500rpm and above it sounds pretty normal but at 1250rpm to 1500rpm the noise is almost embarrassing the clatter it makes.

Anyone care to turn their stereo down at try to cruise at 1250 is ? Whats your sound like ?

thanks lads

You should hear the 1.9tdi ha ha!! I've drove a Leon FR tdi for quite a long time in work and i never thought it was that bad tbh. Think the main reason behind the noiseyness is that fact the the engine is not common rail which is generally much smoother running deisel car.

Same here - PD140. Thinking of fitting an articulated trailer to mine.

Ye man my 170 is just the same, noisier than a blind lesbian in a fish market. I like it when chavs in corsas take the piss about diesels being slow tho...just floor the smoke pedal and away we go :)

thing is Diesels arent meant to be quiet! id rather have a noisy diesel that works that a slow one thats quiet

Yes the PD170 is less refined than the CR but who cares

I dont see threads on trucker forums saying "My Scania V8 has a noisy engine"

As the concensus of this thread, they are a tad noisy! But I soon forget to give a damn when I punch it and it punches me back :D I imagine Seat may have skimped on sound proofing though as I was in a 2.0PD Jetta (56 plate) taxi Sat night and that didn't sound as loud at all.

I also agree with wcester - Mondeos are very noisy - one of the worst Common Fail engines for noise I would say.

Was out in a Merc C220 CDI loaner the other day, brand new and even that had a rattle to it - they're just noisy I'm afraid!

Thanks for the feed back lads, sure i know diesels are noisy my concern was that rev range 1250rpm to 1750rpm

Ive just switched jobs and the ride into work does now included some city center driving were as before it didn't hence why i now pick up on it now.

Very happy with the noise created below or above that rev range not really noticeable.
