Can anyone tell me if my PD170 engine is subject to the oil pump problems that affect Audi A4's etc with a 2.0 PD engine???

After having a friend borrow his dad's a4 and 10 mins later the engine has gone bang, its making me wonder what I could be in for????

Thanks

Steve

the geared ones fail aswell mate
the faults with geared ones are that the hexagonal drive from balance shaft housing to the pump fails
if i remember they modified the drive about 2006/7
i have also had a balance shaft fail

I don't suppose you have any links to that info? It's the first I've heard of it and wouldn't mind finding out more, I like to try and keep my info up to date lol

I believe it is only the engines mounted longitudinally, the altea is mounted transversely. I'm no mechanic mind and open to correction but did quite a bit of looking around when I had a skoda superb with the bss engine. It is to do with a notched round socket wearing and the shaft stops turning it, I think they only needed this when the engine was turned around for the a4, a6, passat and skoda superb. Hope I'm right as wouldn't have bought another 2.0 tdi:)

Hope this helps
Tom
