Hi,

I am finally picking up my Cupra from the dealership tomorrow. It is a black inferi with JE side skirts and rear top spoiler added. The JE design skirts and spoiler gives the car a nice look that distinguishes itself from the FR model.

The dealership is also installing the Forge Adjustable Quick Shifter, Neuspeed Engine Torque Arm Insert, Forge BOV spacer and last but not least REVO stage 1 code to bump up the power to around 306bhp for now.

Next month after I and the car settle down with one another  I will add the following:

P-FLO with cold air attachment -
Downpipe 3 inch -
Hi-flow Cat -
Gutted pre-cat

I am not touching the rest of the exhaust since I think the major power restriction is in the downpipe and cats.

Also I will upgrade REVO code to stage 2 when they have it to take advantage of the modifications to the exhaust.

My goal powerwise is 330bhp and I will have achieve a power to weight ratio that is fun for a car that is driven daily.

Cannot wait for tomorrow

What a great car you're going to drive. I think you will be very surprised with the power of the remapped Cupra. I am driving my Cupra +/- 4 weeks remapped (312 Bhp) and every time i floor the trottle i am getting a big smile on my face. :D Let us know what you're impressions are when you drove it.

Cheers,

Eric

Sounds like a fantastic spec for a new Cupra! Is your dealer happy to cover the car under warranty even with those changes, since they fitted it all for you?

Of course since they sell the REVO thru the dealership. REVO is offer via SEAT n Greece so they cover the warranty.

Eri seems very happy with his car so I know I will be with mine.

What I like about the Cupra is the fact that it has an S3 style engine which on its own is a jewel at this price. This car was built to be a winner at the track so to pass it by VAG marketing team they had it detuned and spec. differently from the S3 and GTI.

When they take it to the track I am sure they already have simple changes to make it a awesome road hugger on the track. If you ever have a chance just compare the actual changes from an FR to the Cupra and you will see that the changes were designed with an easy way to apply BTCC rules to this car and have them very competitive. An example is the aluminum that was used to being down the weight... Brakes that are spec. for the road but also for real track racing. Engine that is overbuilt for the road but perfect for squeezing out every available hp. 300hp is a figure that BTCC cars like to see with little or no mods. hence for the Cupra.

Now I know people are saying that the Cupra is for the track (Club Racing = Cupra) but a company sells cars for profit and for the street. This one is a sleeper that had an additional few tweaks that would not have been added to help promote it's image on the racing circuit so to help sell more of its less prestiges models like the FR and Sport...

This car is very very very easy to modify for speed and handling so for me it is money well spent. Will let you know how it feels after this weekend of driving....

REVO code usually cost around 900+ euros. Warranty is good with the code and the car should be under your standard warranty. The car comes ready for action so I would not worry about long break-in times. Spacer is just a little device that lets some pressurize air out to give you the sound of a true BOV but is not the real deal(so to speak). Most of the air has to recirculate otherwise the ECU loses track of how much air has actually been meter and incorrectly adjusts your Air/Fuel ratio...

My written Greek sucks so I will work on that for the future :)

Just had a meeting from REVO Greece installer who asked me to wait two weeks for the code to go from beta to production.... "Costa, if you are reading this I don't like waiting but just this once"...

So I will give a report on the car without the REVO install tomorrow but there goes half of the fun ;)

Ok I've had a chance this weekend to drive "pooki" as my young daughter has fondly called the Cupra(don't ask).

The car is sweet slightly rough around the edges in handling but the engine is very nice and begs for an upgrade in ECU programming to really unleash the horsepower that it has to offer...

With the quick shifter, torque arm insert and Forge spacer already installed the car goes very well.

I heard many comments about the spacer being to noisy or intrusive but I must say it complements the car and is not loud at all compare to a true BOV running on an EVO. No one is going to point fingers at the car with the spacer so I have no problem leaving it on the car.

The quick shift is exactly what I wanted on this car and it works. I love the quick and gated throws that the car now exhibits and it makes shifting quite enjoyable. I highly recommend this mod.....

The torque insert added no detectable vibration to the Cupra. When I have a chance with more hp I will test it out under more demanding circumstances...

My BIG disappointment was REVO Greece is still not ready with the code and I was told several weeks yet. :( Unitronics does have working code since end of January so I will evaluate them first and when REVO code production is release will try then out as well. Unitronics has told me around 285whp or 310hp at the crank.

This Cupra is fast stock especially in third and fourth BUT my outlook is it NEEDS the upgrade code to make it come truly alive.

Brakes around town are very nice. They stop on a dime and have very good pedal feel. When I have a chance to take the car on the track I will give the brakes a real test. My thought is the brake pads will need a better quality but that should be all for spirited driving.

Looks-wise the car is almost there with the addition of JE side skirts and rear top spoiler. One other part I will add is the front grill honeycomb and painted the same color as the car. I don't like the chrome on the front grill or the SEAT insignia.

All in all I am happy with the purchase of this car as a daily driver with bouts of spirited driving...

More to follow in a few days...

leongr we need pictures of the car!!i do not think that the car really needs an upgrade code to make it alive though.1st and 2nd are allready difficult to put down so with the code maybe they will become a real problem, unless like eri"s jd remap they will also play with the esp.only in 5th and 6th i would have wanted a little more power but i don"t have the roads for the 200 plus km these two drives give me to appreciate them been remaped!the only reason that i"m thinking of trying the revo or any upgrade would have been for knowing for the first time in my life what a 300 hp car feels like....

Kalimera,

You are right on the car having difficulty in putting power to the ground in first and second but I like having power in higher gears especially in overtaking. This means I like the turbo to spool around 3000+ rpm with higher boost then what the current setup provides... As for limiting power in first and second with traction control adjustments that could be a good solution just don't have anyone from REVO or Unitronic offering the mod :)

For me it is not how much power you have in a car but how well it is usable in the location you are at whether in the city, national highway or at the track for the weekend having fun with the car. :)

Why not? And who do you recommend instead?

Eri said that when he re-mappded his Cupra, the tractioncontrol improved also.

I don't know anyone else then the two above that are in Greece... REVO is associated with SEAT here so that would be my first choice but Unitronics seem to have a high reputation for quality work and in responding to customers request so that is important to me as well... Toss the coin????? :)

Just a report on how things are going. First still waiting to put on code but decided to let a few more weeks go by to fully feel the car stock BEFORE adding the extra HP. This way I will be able to understand the difference totally.......

First off the engine is very smooth and at high RPM it is very easy to redline her without understanding it. With the power the car is making and having 6 gears you will be shifting very quickly :)

Even at 240hp the car spins 1,2 and 3rd at times. I can not image what will happen with 310hp on tap what she will do...

I had a quick race the other day with a 350clk mercedes AMG powered and he could not overtake me but I could not overtake him either. I did start off with the ESP system on so with it off I would have had a better take off as with each gear change the engine limited fuel flow to keep the tires in check... Note to self "take off ESP when racing"....
