Hi guys. Recently took delivery of my 1.8tsi dsg and absolutely love it. I'm thinking of fitting a pipercross panel filter I'm just wondering if it will increase the induction noise and if I will get any extra turbo whistle and dump valve noise as it seems fairly quiet as standard.

Also I will remove the aftermarket filter for the cars service. But will it set alarm bells ringing when they see the standard filter I will put back in has hardly been used will they know I've had an after market in and kick up a fuss?

Any help appreciated guys.

makes a bit more turbo whistle and a little louder induction noise, but you don't get any blow off noises or turbo chatter, in my opinion it makes throttle more sensitive, but i have it in my Cupra 290, so couldn't give you a definite answer.

in regards to them noticing the filter, i don't think they're really that bothered on the condition when they change out the old one for servicing, how could they prove you've changed it over.

The filter isn't changed for 60k miles or something ridiculous, so they won't even look before then, and if they do just say you changed it yourself as 60k is too long in your opinion. For the cost of it I flop a new one in every 20kish.
Noise apart, I don't think "performance" filters make much difference, maybe a couple of bhp at full chat, but I for one couldn't notice that over standard.

I had a Ramair foam panel in my...did not notice any difference in noise.
No one would care less about fanel filter in service.

I repleced my Ramair panel with WVR600 but still hardly any difference in noise.

Ok guys thanks for the replies

What is the best option to go for I've seen pipercross, KnN and ramair panel filters just wondering if any have more of an advantage?

Whichever one doesn't need oiling, the pipercross is now a dry filter, was on the audi 18 tt from around 2011, I imagine the others you mention might have gone over to dry filters too?

If you want to hear a blow off sound, you need a valve like this

uspmotorsports.com/Engine/Forced-Induction/Diverter-Valves/Forge-1.8T-2.0T-Blow-Off-Valve-2013-Vehicles.html

or like this

ctsturbo.com/cart/products/CTS_TURBO_2_0T_BOV_BLOW_OFF_VALVE_KIT_EA888_3-4777-569.html

I've got one from forge and it sounds not so loud, as in CTSturbo video.

youtube.com/watch?v=HGvCs02ZmCY

but after a year with periodical hard driving on race tracks it's still working well.

Well had the pipercross panel filter fitted for a week now. No noticeable different in performance but it deffinatley sounds better. Can hear it sucking air in and then a bit louder tsshhhh when lifting off can hear it even with radio on and windows shut.
Might be coincidence but my fuel consumption has improve a tiny bit too. I would deffinatley recommend the pipercross filter.

Considering one of these as my car sounds about as interesting as our washing machine. Used these quite a lot back in the 80's and 90's when I was doing big mileages and they certainly lasted much better than the standard items and seemed to crisp up the throttle response a little. Pipercross website states no increase in noise and I don't recollect any change in noise level - except when I didn't get the air box lid back on right!

Anyone else tried one recently and able to comment?
