Hi guys,
My 2003 LEON 20v with jabbasport ihi turbo is in a bit of a bad way!
First of all I think the cv joint went and spilled tiny ball bearings all over the place which I'm hoping can be fixed when I fit the new drive shaft I just bought!!
But the real problem is the clunking noise from the gearbox and the fact it wont settle into gear??
will this be fixed when I fit the shaft or is there something more serious going on??
Also is it as straight forward to change the near side (passenger) drive shaft as undoing the bolts and swapping over? I can't seem to find any videos or diagrams on this issue!
If anyone can help I would be very grateful as gone are the days where I can afford to take her to a garage!!

you shouldn't rive it with a fooked CV joint especially if the ball bearings have come out the clunking is properly the play in drive shaft now its not held in properly but not sure why it wont go into gear but whatever you do DON'T drive it

Sorry should of said it will go into gear just neither wheel will move at all and it makes the clunking noise????????

where the bearings have come out then that wheel will probely not move as the shaft will have nothing to catch to make it spin try jacking up the front of the car and turn the engine on dont put it into gear it the drive shaft spins all by its self then its not catching the hub but only let it run for a few seconds you dont wanna cause any damage and hold on to it aswel just incase ;) if both driveshafts spin and the wheels dont then neither is connected and you may have poped the drivers side out somehow

and befor you ask (or anyone else does) the drive shafts will spin on idle if there is no wheel n i know this as i tested mine when i replaced the CV joint :) i

If your cv is actually gone you wont get any drive from either wheels I don think. The clonking noise will probs be the gearbox spinning and crunching round the fooked cv as it tries to put drive through it

Thank you so much lads!!
I did try and find a thank you buton for all your posts like on some other forums but I couldn't see one??
You guys were right after putting the new drive shaft in the car drove BUT!! When I was going down the road a grinding noise started and the steering started to go funny?
I think that maybe the ball bearings that fell out were from the wheel hub? (they were very small as opposed to the bigger marble size ones)
There was also some play when the wheel was attached it would move a little, in fact even before the wheel was put back on it the drive shaft had some play in it?
anybody got any ideas? guy who just had a look said he thinks its the wheel hub!

Thanks for all your help so far and hope you all had a merry xmas and new year!!

hsf??
Is it just a case of taking the wheel off taking all the bolts out and replacing the hub? cant seem to find any documents on the net of how it should be done!!
also does anybody know how I go about getting the part number as somebody said they have a tdi wheel hub and just wanted to check it would be ok??
On a side note is it likely my drive shaft has been uprated because the one i installed looks a bit more bulky??

Think you may be right it was an eBay job!! Not sure of the part number but the only thing wrong with the one I took off was the seal had split so maybe it could be worth getting a repair kit for it??
Still not too sure about the part numbers for the hub though or where would be best to get one??
