I checked and I have an Oil Temp reading on channel 134 although it is -60oC. Guessing mine doesn't have the sensor then.

Haha yeah! Chilly for June so it is!

Being honest, I am not too bothered about the oil temp gauge as the only way to get a read outr it seems is to fit this gadget which ain't gonna happen on my car and I have the old warm up and cool down routine down to a tee :)

It would be interesting to see on VAGCOM how long it takes for the oil to get up to temparature with gentle driving though :)

Probably longer than most people think.

That's just it. It always takes longer than you might think.
As I said, if I were driving proper kit, I'd have a gauge (and of course the sensor that goes with it...as these can easily be bought totally separate.)

Bit of a thread revival.

We have a large box of these units entering the UK this week if anyone's interested in one for their vehicle.

Can you read Oil Temp via VCDS?

If so, with the Polar box installed, you should be able to then view it. AFAIK

Not if you do not have the oil temp sensor mounted. Check bottom of your engine block and see if it's mounted or not. Older engines are missing the temp sensor, think it was introduced with the facelift.

Correct

But as LeonCR stated above he has it already installed I wanted to know if he could read it via VCDS.

He can, so as far as I'm aware. If he installs a Polar FIS, then he should be able to select Oil Temp as one of the shown parameters.

Looking at the wiring diagrams on ELSA I think cars from 09 had a double plug into the clusters. I wonder if this is what allows it.

Obviously. I may just be talking out of my backside too lol
