Installed a new aftermarket head unit, but the FM reception is diabolical. Have been told that power needs to go back up to the aerial to power up an amp in the aerial base to boost the signal. Apparently this does not happen with an aftermarket system (but is built into the stock unit) and an adapter is needed.

Does this ring any bells with anyone?

Has anyone had a problem with reception with an aftermarket unit?

How was it sorted?

Helllllllllllllllllp!!!!!!

I installed a new head unit in girlfriends arosa and had to get an adapter, cant find the instructions sorry but the part was a PC5-90 adapter to get FM working properly.

The PC5-90 adapter you can pick up anywhere, about a tenner from halfords, or follow the link from Damoegan, its the same thing exactly. The blue lead goes to a power source if i remember, either constant power from the battery or on / off with the ignition depending on where you stick it into the connector block.

hope youve not been out and bought the above already, cos that advice isnt right, you need the fakra aerial adaptor (autoleads PC5-137):

this has the additional blue plug you need to connect to the cars aerial, and depending on the type of socket on the HU, may need a DIN-ISO adaptor too...

Didn't work. Reception is still crap! :wtf: Gonna have to re install the stock unit and see if the problem is with the head unit or the aerial :banghead:
