Powder coating seems to be the preferred method with most refurb shops. It gives a stronger finished coat and as it's baked on, no drying time. They can be done in half a day.

can you recommend anywhere to get them done around north london or herts jc?

Hi Tommy,

I had my MR2 alloys done at Lepsons in Gillingham, just over the bridge into Kent, great job and not a bad journey if your close to M25.

Well I just had my 19 inch cupra r wheels powder coated and done gloss black. There was a couple of marks he repaired but the finish is excellent but they cost £75 a wheel.
I checked a few places prices varied from £60 to £75 each.
You get what you pay for as some of the places were not even going to remove the tyres just push them off the bead!!!!!
I went for the full wheel proper job see pic

I left them with them last Wedensday and they lent me a set of 18 inch alloys and I picked them back up today so 1 week.
He removes and refits the tyres and balances and also to and from the car.
They were done at the blast shop thursby near Carlisle.
Great reputation and a outstanding job.

thats sounds like a good deal to say you get to borrow wheels and re fit tyres and balancing spot on

On the website it says wheel refurb for £1 and inch plus vat and for gloss finishes add 50%.
But it doesn't say they powder coat them or have I missed that?

Kev,

Those rims look really nice dipped in gloss black, matches the car's gloss black highlights... That rim finish should have been standard on all yellow LCR's, great contrast!

From the pic it looks like the backs of the wheels got coated in the same finish also? I hope you have waxed and coated them in whatever you can to maximise protection from weathering and the general road grime.

Nice one matey!

P.S – Apologies to detract away from the original thread question.

Behind the front face is a semi gloss finish so looks good.
I waxed them yesterday and will be keeping on top of them.

Thanks
Kev

I powder coat my wheels every year to keep them looking fresh. My mate works at a wheel place and does this all day long and they charge no more for powder coating than they do painting so it's a no-brainer....
