Premium brand brake pads / discs

It's time for some new rear pads and discs, judging by the sound they made driving to work today.

Was wondering if it's worth spending a few extra quid on say Brembo / Frerodo pads and discs rather than bog standard ones. They'd only be replacing the current worn standard size (no money to fit bigger brakes). It would only cost me an extra £40ish over the economy pads/discs so if it'll make a difference (in performance or durability) I'll find the extra dosh.

Anyone had experience of this or are pads/discs all much the same on a standard brake system?

I have used Mtec, Brembo and the standard Pagid on my TDI 150. I would get brake fade from pagid as they were on standard disks, the Mtec were good for 40 000 miles till the fronts cracked (due to them being drilled), brembos are really good for the cost but I had trouble getting brembo discs for the rears (a couple of years ago), nobody had them in stock. I am still running grooved brembo discs and pads and will get them again as they are a great all rounder

Brembo aren't classed as the number 1 brake company in the world for nowt.

for what its worth rear brakes don't take that much of a hammering compared to fronts and depending on driving style so pagid would be just fine.. however.....if you are looking for quality and/or drive it like you stole it then Mtec and Brembo would be my choice of stoppers..(mtec actually, good as brembo but a little cheaper)

Cheers for the feedback folks, it's the tears that are hammered and need changing now. Think I'll go with Brembos and when I've saved more pennies I'll do the fronts.
