I can answer number 4. Its stand alone. That being said though, I am not convinced its a great idea. The engine was designed to get rid of crap. This doesnt really let that happen.

i think its the way the engine was designed to get rid of the crap that can cause other problems, mines been fine although i must empty the can soon :)

when fitting the manifold did you make sure the fitting doesn't go all the way through and stop the manifold fitting flush against the head face ? I had to cut mine down a little bit. also is the scre long enough? if its only just making contact it could just be pulling itself out of the hole instead of gripping and pulling the manifold flush.

Maybe you can insert a bolt through from the back and then use a nut to clamp it up. Failing that I would tap the thread out to the next size up or fit a helical thread repair.

i was reading through this thread cringing :(
youve spent £ 1000's buying the car plus modding it at another cost of £1000's and you want to do what?

i know you have a problem but trying to bodge it is not the answer.

you only have 3 choices
1st and the route i would go down is to helicoil the hole at least you can keep the same size bolts and will be a lot stronger.

2nd you could drill and tap next size thread up , but what happens if yoou mess this 1 up as well? no where to go :(

3rd buy a repacement from seat may cost ££££'s but job done.

Agree with the helicoil route, and it's around £20.00 from Draper tool or Sealey stockists.

heh a res thread :) anyways...

Just a few questions.

1) did you get the sealing issue resolved
nope still the same...

2) did you change this because of idling issues
nope problems during WOT (and a common issue too)

3) how does the car run now
on stg2+ 8/6/9 running fine on 99ron however im on 7/4/9 on 95ron (fine aswell).

4) do you need the catch can, or is it a stand alone item
stand alone item.

In fairness...its working fine for the time being, had a service today and the mot passed but had to replace a CV joint guitar, other than that its all good I guess.

Eventually I will replace the engine rocker cover and new bolts too to secure correctly but saving for something else at the moment.

hope this helps!

there is no space at the back to tap it...(no pun intended)

I have used various of methods but in fairness nothing is strong enough to keep it in place other than using a bigger screw (its not fully secure but it works alright).

a rocker cover / gasket = 100quid in total and labour I can do myself but just need the spare £££ and time to do it.

That's great cheers mate. The idling has just started to become slighty erratic. So will be getting one of these for now, then I'll get the Forge catch tank.

I don't have any at the moment but as soon as I get any trouble I scan it with my vagcom like asap! hehe. the worst idling problem was my coil packs which was clogged with water...not good but its all good for the time being.
