Problem with Seat sound

Hi,

I was driving to work this morning playing music via Bluetooth and after a while the volume suddenly dropped and it sounded a bit distorted. I turned the volume up on the phone but I'm not sure it sounds as bassy as it did. It maybe ok, I'm not sure. I have the seat sound upgrade, does anyone know where the subwoofer is so I can check k it's working?

Cheers,
Izo

Sub is located in the boot 'under' the shelf. Should be inside where the spare wheel is.

Perhaps just disconnect and reconnect the wire that runs to the sub.

Also...if playing radio or CD/MP3 from SD/USB does this happen?

Either that, might be your 'speed dependent volume' having a field day.

TBH, I run my music off usually SD card and or USB, sometimes CD. I find the BT audio not as good.

I've had the car a couple of months (it's a 2013)
and it's the first time it happened. I usually use BT without a problem. I've used a CD briefly but I can't really compare.

Aha, I remember those, so if you want to connect USB or Phone, you need to connect it to a wire in the glovebox. Do you have the open close cubby under the aircon controls? That was super useful in mine :).

Hmm...did your phone recently do a software (or any) updates?

Yeah that's right, there's a cd player and a SD input with some cables in the glovebox. Also a cubby hole under the air-conditioning. Some of the apps were updated yesterday which may have included Spotify, the app I was using, so could be something to that. I'll check the subwoofer after work.

Well I checked the subwoofer and it seems to be working. It was vibrating anyway. It didn't seem very loud, but I guess the sound is going into the car. I didn't move it or anything. It doesn't feel as rumbly in the car now, but I may be imagining it.

The sub only rumbles... you can't really hear any voices or instruments from the sub. And if you are having some female high pitched vocals, the sub doesn't even produce any sound. I'm sure if you have some bass heavy tunes, turn the volume to 1/3 and put your hand on the backseat, or the anywhere on the floor of the boot once boot is opened, you will feel it vibrate/rumble.

Do try a CD to see if it cuts off/out or not...I doubt it will tbh. If i'm not mistaken, the sub speaker is even smaller than the front door speakers diameter wise. The sub is not the size of the wheel, it's only half, I'm not sure what's in the other half of the housing, perhaps the amp.

One day I will check in mine (but mine is the Seat Sound in the Ibiza).

I'm not familiar with the setup but it sounds like the amplifier has or is failing. I.e. Not putting out enough power to power the sub and possibly other speakers. Hence the volume drop and decrease in base.

Could be that. All the speakers seem to be working but I'm not convinced it sounds the same. If I took it to a dealer would they be able to diagnose that or will I have to wait until it dies completely?

When you are next in your car, play some tunes, and you can send the sound to front only, Front left, rear right speakers only etc to see if anything is underperforming in the sound setup. From experience in my Leon, the front speakers runs about 25% louder and bassier than the rear door speakers @ same volume, but once you send the sound round, if all is working, then, it's not that.

Also bear in mind, that sometimes (at least I remember good ole FM radio) 'complicated passages of music or bass heavy music' tend to lower volume as there is bandwidth bottleneck at specific points in the music.

I will need to try this with bluetooth streaming if this is the case...

Hence my recommendation of playing through a CD, this doesn't have any bandwith issues...'to check'

Just a thought. Could it be that for some reason, your audio settings reset themselves? Have a check, just in case, it may be your bass was turned up a little and now it's not.
