problems with my ICE setup. pls help

hiya guys, im having problems with my ICE setup, ive had the same setup in my cars for years now, and had no problems with my 4 golf mk4's.

However since fitted in into the leon, sometimes when i start the engine, i hear a thumping noise coming frm the sub, and it makes the dash lights dim in n out, and then its ok, then sometimes whilst im driving, itll happen then too.

I thought at first it maybe due to the fact i fitted the power cable to the power point under the steering wheel. but to eliminate that, i then ran the 4 gauge wire straight to the battery. and the problems still there.. not happening as much .. but every now n then i hear the thumping noise... ??? any ideas whats causing this ?? bad earth ??? maybe i need a new battery for the car ??? ??? i aint got a clue, the earth is under the rear seat near where the seat belt is ....

can anyone help ??

Is the earth connected to bare metal (i.e. no paintwork between connector and body)?
Also what's the Power output of the amp in RMS?
I'm not an expert on this, but it sounds like my speakers at home, have to turn the mixer on first, then the speakers (or most cases, amplifier) otherwise you get that pop or thud you're experiencing.

Is the signal on cable connected up properly, the amp could be continuously on, then when the signal from the stereo goes through the RCAs it's making that pop, only a theory!

Yeah check your earthing quality first, all amps apparently have a thud when they first power up but manufacturers put something inside those amps to stop it from happening. Could be that that part of the amp has seen better days? I think maybe if you have a friend who has a amp, you could ask to try his in his car. As long as all the wiring is ok and not shorting out somewhere it will either be the amp, or less likely the headunit.

Hows the saving going bigwill? BTW if you want one of those GTO amps I can get you one new for 100 as my mate has 3 cause the suppliers sent him out 2 when he only wanted the one lol.

Saving money is a new concept for me, and only started doing it since i got the job so it's actually painful! But it'll definately be worth it in the end, If I've worked it out right and your mate has one of those amps spare still, I could get the stuff in beginning of new year depending on the waiting list of the box builder.
Haven't seen you about a lot on here, still have the SE's in the car?

yeah still rockin the SE's, and they are still impressing people even though my home made box and power supply leaves alot to be desired. Once I get my next car it will be all done properly and will be upgrading to 2 x AA Chaos. Probably with about 1800 to 2000rms up them.

oooh the chaos' with that power will just be immense! Still waiting for mine to arrive, ordered on the 4th november, and just got an email from CAD today saying it'll be further delayed to 21st january!.

Quite some wait that is. Sounds like alot of people must have ordered some for xmas!

It's definitely the earthing point, I had the same thing before I found a better earthing point behind the back panel of the boot... needed a good bit of paint scrubbing and then repainting but i've got a really clean signal now!
