I am not sure if this questions is relevant for the UK models but anyway. I am about to order a Leon SC FR here in Bulgaria and there's the following pack I can order:

(Order code: PDS) Driving assistance pack5: headlights with high beam assist + lane assist system (the translation is mine)

First of all, what is this high beam system about? Do you have any idea? I suppose it is automatically switching between high beam and dipped beam through the use of a camera/sensor. There's no description whatsoever on the Bulgarian website. This option doesn't require any other option, such as LED headlights, and since I will certainly order the LED lights, I am wondering if this high beam assist is applicable for LED lights as well? To be honest, I wouldn't trust our dealer to answer me honestly because (judging from my previous experience with them) it is highly likely that they will charge me for both the high beam and LED lights even if the first option is redundant. LED lights are quite advanced and I guess they may come by default with some sort of automatic beam regulation including high beam and dipped beam switching.

High Beam Assist means as you are driving down the road with high beams on and a car approaches on the other side of the road your headlights will automatically dip to normal beam until the car passes and will then automatically go back to full beam.

Lane Assist is supposed to keep your car in the lane, and will automatically 'hint' by twitching the steering wheel if you start to drift out. You'd want to check this is available in Bulgaria as it relies on lane information on the GPS system as well as the camera in the windscreen. I'm sure I read somewhere it doesn't work in all countries or all roads.

Taking in mind most roads over here lack any lane markings I would be surprised if that works at all :D

So, I guess it is normal with high beam assist to drive on high beams all the time, thus having better lighting in front if you while the system takes care to dip it when it's needed?

Yet again, does it work with full led headlights or is only available on halogen lights?

BTW, slightly offtopic but there's one really weird option you can order here and that's a "right-hand drive" package. I gave it a lot of thoughts and am still quite amazed at who might wanna order that here in this side of Europe. But on the other hand, prices here are much lower than in UK, so maybe you Brits can hit the bargain coming here and ordering through our dealership... Not that I would recommend them since I've got some ridiculous stories about their services on my current Leon ;)

I think the general idea is that you use high beam when on unlit roads late at night when it is not busy. So in the UK that will be some stretches of motorway and quiet country roads. Without high beam assist you have to drive with full beam on but keep taking it down to normal when a car comes the other way so you don't dazzle them. High beam assist takes it back down to normal for you when it senses car lights coming in the other direction. On normally lit roads, you don't need to use high beam so the assist package is redundant.

LED doesn't affect this at all, it would work the same with normal lights.

I've got LED headlights, but no High Beam Assist. So getting LED's doesn't automatically get you the HBA
