It is very personal so one company might be great for me by not for you and vice versa. Try comparing online first, then ring up some companies and negotiate.

I ended up with esure and they were great value.

Esure are evil! I was with them when I had my mk2 golf GTI stolen. Laughed at me down the phone then gave me £300 for a car that was worth over £2000! All they do is look for the cheapest car in auto trader to value your car

+1 for Esure, they have been very good for me over the years, my insurance went up £3 after swapping my 07 FR worth 4k to the Supercopa worth 15k but as mentioned above it's all down to the person.

A lot of people say LV are meant to be good but they have always been really expensive for me :-/

I'd recommend using comparison sites (confused etc) as these days you can include modifications like a remap, state the bhp increase (i.e. 10%-20%) and you get loads of quotes all in one go.

Saves all the ringing around or using companies you've never heard off. When I did a quick check there were quite a lot of well know companies showing reasonable prices too.

My CR170 FR+ is £320 for a year standard and with a stage 1 remap was approx £100 more which I thought pretty good. Not all I need is the remap! :)

Only ones who would quote me were Greenlight and Sky Insurance, due to a high risk named driver (26, but only had licence for 2 years). Both very similar on price, but Sky went above and beyond what i would normally expect from an insurer in terms of actually wanting my business and the level of cover offered.

They insured my Stage 2 FR, all mods declared and covered like-for-like, with my 'suposedly' high risk named driver, for less than the comparison sites would quote me on a standard FR

Best advice anyone can give you is to start with the comparison sites, then get quotes from the specialists. Most allow you to submit your details online nowadays anyway, so you don't need to go through the same details when speaking to each broker.

hello many thanks for everyones help,im currently with greenlight and have been for a few years(first went with them when i had a focus st when i was 24) always very helpful and resonable, was just curious to see if anyone recommended anywhere better,im awaiting an e mail reply from adrian flux as i have previously used them and were also pretty good....im not a big fan of the comparison sites personally but thats just my opinion

my current renewal from greenlight by the way was 390 with a tdi tuning box, which isn't massively excessive

Try ebroker direct, my previous company increased the price so gave these peeps a call and full comp with few extras cost me £90 less £175 per year!

To be honest you can only find out how good an insurance company is when you have an accident.

That's why I'm always a little sceptical about specialist insurance companies that cover performance or modified, you can find find the underwriters are some company you're never heard of and when the worse happens an you have a bump they are utterly useless.

My Dad had this happen to him recently after a non fault accident when something fell off a truck and damaged the front bumper. The damage was under the excess of £500 and the insurance company he was covered by didn't want to know at all. He received a letter saying "as they amount of damage is under the excess for the policy we now consider the matter closed". He's still fighting the claim now, nearly a year after the accident.

When he's renewal came up I used confused, saved him over £200 and he's now with LV.

Yep, eSure were pretty horrible to my wife.

She was rear-ended by a guy in an ML and hurt her back (she's had prior back issues, but all had been good for 4-5yrs) They asked if she had been injured and she said yes and had arranged to see the doctor/physio about the pain. They basically didn't want to progress any claim for it and implied over the phone that she was making it up.

As a coincidence the ML driver was also insured by eSure... I'm pretty concinved they just didn't want to have to pay out for anything from their "own pockets" as it were.

After ~6months of Physio appts my wife is back to how she was prior to the accident.

I'd suggest giving them a body-swerve

Two companies i have been with for my Impreza Sti/ Civic Type R and now the MK2 Cupra R are Keith Michaels and A Plan. Between the two of them they have given me prices that only the dodgy price comparison sites could get below and i dont trust those sites if you needed to claim.

Another recommendation for Sky insurance here. Saved me over £100 compared to the best price I could find on a comparison site. Chris Knott also gave a good price, just not quite as good as sky.
