Hi guys

I've just replaced my coolant on my 1.6L petrol 2011 ibiza, engine model BTS. (Using Valvoline max life coolant suitable for G12++/G13 standard, 50/50 mixture ratio)

During the replacement I 'pumped' the gas for extracting air from the system, and reached max temp of 105 degrees celsius. When reaching this temperature, I switched the engine off.
I've noticed that the fan didn't "kick in" due to the engine temp, but did kick in when switching the heater on.

So, my questions:

1. At what coolant temperature does the radiator fan should have kicked in?
2. What is the optimal coolant temp range for this engine?
3. What temperature is considered as "overheating"?

Thanks ahead for any assistance.

Okay, as your engine was only one cooling fan, it will be a two speed fan, at a guess the slow speed will get switched on at 100C and will switch off at 80C, the fast speed will switch on at 110C and switch off (back to the slow speed) at 90C - these temperatures levels I'm quoting are just guesses but close enough I'd think.

So, it looks like your slow speed circuit has failed, probably due to a dropper resistor having burned out through use.

Edit:- 90 C is probably the optimum temperature.
