Well it seems I can't stop modifying the Leon!!

After all the following have been done:

Revo remap
Rear spoiler
Side skirts
FK 15mm rear spacers
Eibach sportline springs
Dectane rear red LED lights
OEM Golf Mk5 foglight 'eyeball' upgrade
Cupra R rear valence (being painted as we speak)
Cupra R rear exhaust
Seat Sport black 18" alloys
LED interior lights

I thought I wouldn't stop there!!!

I've just ordered a OEM headunit, now Seat don't offer a DAB upgrade, so after some research I've gone for the VW Mk5/6 Golf RCD510 headunit.

It's quite a nice unit as it's got DAB, SD card, 6 disc internal MP3 player plus full colour touchscreen.

I mainly want it for the DAB it the other features look good too.

I've also ordered an AV interface and a number plate reverse camera!

So hopefully it will all go in well and I'll report back within the next couple of weeks (fitting it round my busy work schedule!)

I have AM/FM/DAB aerials at work so the OEM roof aerial will be replaced with the new roof aerial which looks almost identical..... You can't beat a bit of OEM+ !!!!

dab aerial

I put a RCD510 in my Leon(MY08), I bought it from ebay i wasn't particularly looking for a DAB but the one i got has DAB,

Its been in now for over 6months although i haven't used the DAB as i can't decide if i want to mess around with the aerial and cables and fakra connectors. As the RCD510 is mainly on the Scirocco but it seems its aerial are on the windows only other option is after market and fakra connectors. I was just looking into the aerial again since i noticed the new COPA's have DAB.

would be interested in the aerial you are looking to fit to your Leon.

I have the RCD510 in my golf with DAB it's a very good system and I use DAB regularly very good, a much better system than the oem system in my last car (Honda Civic).

Does the rcd510 dab go straight into the leon? I had one but hit a wall when trying to install it. No installers wanted to try fitting it and I couldnt find anyone who had put one in a Leon. Do you know if the canbus has to be upgraded too?

Rcd510

I fitted mine in a 57 Leon no canbus update as it was an MY08 although earlier canbus you may get battery drain, its the same as fitting the RNS510 really but no GPS aerial.

I did have to fit an additional wire to the harness to the safe pin to make it work and cut away some of the plastic due to the sd card and you would need a double fakra to single adaptor. I didnt have vagcom so only a few buttons on steering wheel worked plugged straight in eg vol up/down, mute

I've since taken it out as i traded the car in a couple of months ago for another leon which has an rns 315. I do still have the facia, screws and rcd510 as i removed them.

Might give it ago again when I've got some time. I test fitted the one I had, heard it initialize but that was it the screen didn't come on etc. asked around but no one wanted to touch it. I was going to get the cheap vag com just to find out what can bus I had but if I did have to change it I'd have the problem of finding it removing it then re coding it! Why does it have to be so hard to have DAB in a car?! Wish I kept my old pioneer set up and lived with an ugly single din dashboard

If you can hear the internals working then it sounds like the 12v safe on pin 16 on the harness, if you check the rns510 fitting guide people talk about it there.

All i did was take a 12v line from the other pin on the harness using a scotch-lock and a wire/pin from a Universal ISO Plug Set kit i bought from maplin which was pushed into pin 16 in the harness.
Once that was done the screen came on. The RNS510 the screen comes on without the pin bein in place.

I never got the dab functioning because i didnt have an aeria, i wasnt actually looking for one with dab its just what i found on ebay at the time it was out of a jetta but when plugged in it said seat media system 3.0. it was more the fact it was 6 cd's or data cds and the sd card i do alot of driving for work and the radio after certain time becomes rather crap and cd's rattling about the car end up scratched.

I guess your main worry is the battery drain issue if your canbus is below a certain version the leon it was in was a 57 plate registered in Dec 2007 but on some service paper from seat work it said MY08

I'll have to look out for another one on eBay and give it a try again. I don't really know alot about these head units and I couldn't find much info about them at the time. Thought it would be a straight fit like when people were fitting the vw sat nav version into their Leons.

Im looking on Ebay for another RCD510 with DAB to try fitting it again. Kicking myself if I sold my last one and it was just a case of switching a couple of wires! Hope I dont have the canbus hassle as well!

do they really?! hope so I really want to fit a different head unit preferably the DAB one. Anyone know anyone in the North East with some experience?

When researching the RNS 510..... I remember reading a post that said all the Mk2 Leon's have the 2.0 (I think) can bus & it won't cause the battery drain!

I have never heard of any Leon owner that has had the battery drain issue with either unit!

Maybe it's true what my local independent VW garage said about Seat getting all VW's technology after they have sorted it out on their own cars!
Seen a couple of rcd510 on eBay so keeping my eyes open and see if I can can get one inside budget. Be even better if they made the rns510 with satnav and DAB though

Just installed my rcd 510 and up to now everything seems ok . I just have to fit my dab aerial.havent had a chance to check for battery drain yet but up to now its ok .when I installed it the boot up screen was the standard vw one but after I restarted it it changed to seat audio system 3.0 . Saves all the hassle of changing this later

my leon is a 56 plate. Ive got the full mfd with bluetooth and everything works perfectly up to now. Ive only had it in 5 days but ive not had any sign of any battery drain. When i get the chance Ill install my DAB aerial and swap the pins around to get the AUX in working properly. Fingers crossed it works because its so much better than the standard Seat radio. Just remember you need to wire up the safe pin with the permanent live to get the screen to come on.

no not at all all the mfd works perfectly. Im not 100% certain about the bluetooth now. I havent had a chance to check the pins yet but ill keep you posted when I get the chance to mess about with it.
Ive had to swap one of the wires around for the aux in to get that sounding right. Only other thing is I dont think the standard speakers are up to the job. Ive been trying lots of different music and messing about with the bass and treble to stop it sounding so screechy. Looking for some recommendations on here for speaker upgrades.
Ive had the head unit in for a week now and still no sign of battery drain so it still looks good.
