My mate has one of the first FRs on a 56 plate and it has a 1.6 canbus.

Splash Screen

When I connected mine to the leon(57) it came up with the Seat screen even though it came from a VW Jetta there isn't an option to change the splash it must detect the car that its in? It is a DAB version though and was originally from a 2010 Jetta.

Putting my RCD510 on ebay at the weekend as I've changed my car a few months ago and have an the RNS315 in the new leon, thought i could swap it but the bluetooth is built into the stereo :(
I have a video of the splash screen showing seat and media system v3.0

what did you think of the sound quality from your rcd 510? I put one in my Leon and Im not too impressed with the sound quality. Bass is really lacking and Im wondering if it could do with amping or if I could improve things with better speakers

DAB Aerial

Has anyone got a resolve to the DAB Aerial. Looking at buying one of these, and want to check what the best DAB aerial is for everyone?

If you can say what aerial has worked in the Leon then i can order thanks

Ive got a jvc one that Ive had for years and it works fine. You just have to carefully break off the plastic surround on the back of the head unit. Or get it terminated properly

Well it seems I can't stop modifying the Leon!!

After all the following have been done:

Revo remap
Rear spoiler
Side skirts
FK 15mm rear spacers
Eibach sportline springs
Dectane rear red LED lights
OEM Golf Mk5 foglight 'eyeball' upgrade
Cupra R rear valence (being painted as we speak)
Cupra R rear exhaust
Seat Sport black 18" alloys
LED interior lights

I thought I wouldn't stop there!!!

I've just ordered a OEM headunit, now Seat don't offer a DAB upgrade, so after some research I've gone for the VW Mk5/6 Golf RCD510 headunit.

It's quite a nice unit as it's got DAB, SD card, 6 disc internal MP3 player plus full colour touchscreen.

I mainly want it for the DAB it the other features look good too.

I've also ordered an AV interface and a number plate reverse camera!

So hopefully it will all go in well and I'll report back within the next couple of weeks (fitting it round my busy work schedule!)

I have AM/FM/DAB aerials at work so the OEM roof aerial will be replaced with the new roof aerial which looks almost identical..... You can't beat a bit of OEM+ !!!!

I have the RNS510 and has the option for AV input and Rear Reverse.
Can you sell me where you got the rear reverse from please??

I just put an Rcd 510 in my fl cupra. All worked fine I didnt even have to wire up the safe pin, original harness had it as standard, although the pins are not on the original head set. The Aerial I used was from car audio direct called Calearo ANC 7677932EA which is the company who supply the original OEM Aerials this one even has a VW Audi branded fakra connector for the Dab and the correct connector for the AM/FM so you can use the original cable already installed. I didnt connect the power cable as it supports phantom power (Hu send power up the cable). Dab reception is fantastic even out in the countryside.

Now my issue like others have said is the awful sound quality though all the inputs (also didnt need to swap the aux pins). It seems really muddy, upper notes are two bright with no depth and there is hardly any bass - sounds like a cheap hifi from the 70's - well not quite but you get my meaning. The sound is ok when sitting on the drive but as soon as you add some road noise the hu doesnt seem to be able to overpower the road noise without distortion - turing up the volume seems just to push up the mid tones. i think it needs new speakers all round, a powered underseat sub and possibly an amp. From reading around the forums it seems that others have added the powered sub (looking at the Pioneer TS-WX110A) and it has made a huge difference. I think I'm going to go speakers and amped sub first. Also thinking about sound proofing - what started out as a simple head and aerial swap is turning into an expensive project

Thing is I'm sure the original head unit sounded better!!

I thought exactly the same thing and was going to try speakers first. Was thinking about focals then an amp later on. Local Audio installer is crap though and couldnt give any advice just said you wont know until you try it grrrrr! I really dont want to end up with a boot full of amps and bass speakers though.
Im really spoilt though I had a top of the range pioneer refrence head unit and stand alone DAB tuner box in my other cars until the Leon when I thought it would look totally out of place.
Speakers are going to have to wait though after having to replace all four tyres!

right after speaker and amp didnt help the sound quality as much as I wanted I have now got my vcds cable and played around with the settings. I'm still not happy, sound is no better, just louder. Upper mid tones are mudy and sounds like everone has a lisp! I went to put the old unit back in tonight but it wouldnt work:cry: so I may need to code it back in. Cant do it tonight as I have left my laptop at work. If the standard hu sound much better tomorrow i think I'leave it in and just get a dab adapter. Shame really as the functionality is brilliant. A bit like the iphone, great at everything except making phone calls!

I recoded mine and the the sound was much better and more cohesive just with the standard speakers. I dont want to go down the amp route and just keep things simple.
The sound still isnt as good as my old Pioneer reference head unit and DAB tuner box. But that head unit would have looked stupid in a leon.
I think the poor sound proofing doesnt help and the road noice really spoils the bass

yea I'm missing the Bang and Oulfsen (sp) setup I had in my last A5 sportback. I think you are right about the road noise as it sounds OK when sitting on the drive. I've had a beef for a while about the noise from the PZero Rosso's, to the point where no one can hear me on the hands free, so I've decided to change the tyres for quieter ones before I consider replacing the hu. The trouble is I cant find a hu that ticks all the boxes and looks good. If I do change the Pioneer 4400Bt looks pretty good

Steve

I changed my p zero rossos for Goodyear asymmetrical 2 and they are a little quieter. Any pirelli tyre is a waste of time and money. Mine wore out down to the corn on the inside rears and they have as much grip as £50 cheappy tires. I can now pull away from a roundabout without spinning my wheels!
Might sound proof the doors next to see if that helps

Found something on the net that may sort this issue. With vag-com go to radio and to adaptation, change Channel 50 value from 0 to 1.
Now restart the radio and hold the setup button on the radio untill you enter the test mode. Find the loudness setting and turn it off!
Restart radio again, listen and see if any difference!

I wish you had posted this yesterday before I bought a new Pioneer HU!!. I was in the middle of fitting it when I saw this. I plugged in the RCD 510 and used VCDS to do the changes. you need to be quick though as when you select 50 in the adaption it only gives you 1-2 secs to change the 0 to a 1 before it errors. It took me a few tries but i got it in the end. And yes you can change the loudness under the sound menu. I didn't test the sound though as I had already disconnected the speakers and the voltage step down SLi 4 box and couldn't be bothered reconnecting it in the pouring rain! so i can confirm that you can do it but not that it sounds better. You will still get the bass roll off though as the volume goes up as with all factory fit units so I have decided to go with the Pioneer unit. Cant finish fitting it today thanks to the post office not delivering my my stalk adapter and aerial adapter even though they were on special del!!

Rcd 510 dab

sorry if this has been answered before but I could`nt find an answer in the forum:(
I have a 2008 leon fr170 tdi which has the original radio/CD/MP3 fitted -( which does`nt have bluetooth fitted )and have decided to upgrade the radio-I have been looking at a seat rcd510 which I`ve seen on ebay from what appears a reputable company in Spain..My question is:what additional parts would I need for this to work in my car(ie:bluetooth interface,DAB window aerial or can current standard aerial be adapted?)Also would the steering wheel controls still work ok or would I need additional cables?
Thanks Rob.
