Now there are a few of you lucky folk with your Born’s, have you covered enough miles and completed enough full charges to judge the running costs properly?

With rising electricity costs I’m sure I’m not alone in wondering how much of the saving vs fossil fuels is being eroded (not that it was the primary reason for buying one in my case). How much is a full charge at home for those who have that option? And how many miles are you averaging on a charge?
 
I still think it’s cheaper than filling a car with petrol or diesel.

It cost me about 10£ to fuel up from 52% to 100%

My Born is due in October but I have had a Mach-E since November last year. Based on my 1st 5000 miles I spent 27% on electricity of the average cost of diesel during that time. That was a mix of home charging and DC fast charging weighted 80/20 in favour of home.

Looking forward then DC charging is increasing and assuming we move to 52p on 1/10 then the gap will narrow. So we just need to be savvy. I have switched to Octopus Go and will take advantage of the 7.5p 4 hours over night.

Cantrember where, but I read somewhere that octopus energy’s car ev charging tariff had dearer than standard daytime electricity units. Whoever wrote that had worked out they personally were better off on octopus std tariff.
don’t know if that’s right or not so worth double checking I’d have thought.

Yes the Flexible Tariff on Octopus is 27.86p per KWH.
Octopus Go is 40.06p in the day and 7.5p overnight - this price is locked in for 12 months from the time you shift but there are no exit fees to move back to the Flexible Tariff.

So it makes sense to Octopus Go now and then wait to see what the new PM does.
If the price doesnt move to 52p on October 1st then you can always go back to the flex tariff.
