hi

wondering if the brake calipers can be refurbed or if i need to replace

its just had a major service done and I got an advisory the rear brake caliper is ceased and needs doing for its mot which is due end of march.

whats the best course of action on these

as mentioned, fleabay sell 2x 232mm rear calipers for 1.8t (non cupra R) for 90 quid brand new, 30 min job to fit and bleed, 20-30 quid over the service kit but stops a hell of a lot of hassle servicing if the piston is stuck,

just winding them back can stop binding,

Thanks will give it a go,thats a good price for calipers :D Are mk4 Golf calipers the same ?

got a brake binding problem. Just replaced handbrake cables at a garage got stung for £100. The rear right brake is still binding on and frying my discs. I can bit the return handbrake arm with a hammer and that seems to slacken it off.

Where are you guys buying your calipers from GSF I think are around £139 each.

Any help much appreciated need them quick.

Hi, sounds like same problem I had. I got my caliper from david at sere motors, he's on this forum, was £98 delivered that was for a red painted one for the cupra r

Apparently its an easy job to change, was going to fit it myself but had to work away so my missus ended up getting it done on mot day at a garage

cheers googlebear ended up found a place via fleabay called http://www.pweuroparts.co.uk/ a guy called Frank. Bought brand new ones, not refurbished and no return of my ones etc. for £82 delivered. Ended up buying both rears they will be here thursday so a weekend of brakes for me. Just wondering which is the best way to clamp the pipe now maybe vice grips with some flat metal to prevent damage to the rubber pipe itself. Any ideas best way to clamp a pipe anyone?

thanks muttley. I think its the brakes as I replaced the pads and discs just a few months ago and I gave the caliper sliders a really good scrub with a wire brush. I will be really gutted if I made a mistake but I think its a caliper issue or I have just blown about £160 on 2 new calipers !!

I replaced some of the fluid last time I changed the rears and bled a fair bit through the system. Have bought 1L of new dot 4 from the same company for bleading and will run it all through so hopefully not too much old stuff will be left in place.
